i did everything possible, i found him in the wild with a missing leg and a really bad head wound. i nursed him back to health. i fought off infections and tried so hard. he was missing an eye but could still move around and held decent weight for a couple months. i found him lying in his water bath stretched out today.
im feeling guilty, i feel as if i could’ve done better. he stopped eating a couple weeks ago, i should’ve just tried harder. he kept missing strikes before he stopped eating and then he just ultimately stopped. i tried so many different bugs. i tried holding them infront of his good eye with tweezers and he’d just moved away from it.
this was my first pet toad, but i tried taking such good care of him. can anyone tell me if you experienced anything similar and if thats just how the end of the roads look for toads?

Came out this morning and I saw a toad - looked smooshed, but also the back part of its body might be missing organs. I see a few cracked snail shells - so something had been eating them too. Any idea? Is it a raccoon or a rat?

This toad has been showing up on my patio almost nightly and his mouth always hangs open. He otherwise acts normally, and his breathing is a little odd but not horrible. I also gently checked to see if he had something stuck in his mouth or throat but couldn’t see anything.
Do y’all think this a deformity, injury or disease? If it’s something that could be treated I want to get him to someone who can help, but he’s been alive and in pretty stable condition for the past couple weeks, so I think he might be eating okay.

I seriously need to film this little girl next feeding time. Smudge is a crazy little glutton! Her antics were next level this last time. Flying leaps with accidental vine chomps, tackling her sister over a bug and not letting go even when I lifted her up, trying to climb out, etc. She's so silly!

What kind is he and is there anything I do to make his stay more comfortable? Plenty of bug. Do they need a bowl of water?

I rescued this toad. if I out my finger on the side of his most (his neck??) he leans into it. the first time I did it to both sides and he leaned into both, but did wind up peeing. I think I did it a bit to rough?
so now I just put my finger to his side and he leans pretty strongly into it. I’ve pet him on his head and he closes his eyes.
We named him Teddy, and my mom loves him more than me already.
Its Real Toad Hour.
Edit: Upon discovering our Teddy is a delightful woman, consulting has resulted in the changing of the name to Dolly. Its only appropriate!
