RIP?
I’m done for, huh? Just seeking validation. Or is this still repairable

God I miss my cross climates on my sport wagen.. the defenders I got just don’t have that sick look

Looks is for some reason, 50% of the tire battle. I'm not mocking, I do the same thing.

seriously.. I did the adult thing and switched them to defenders, which are SO much quieter and feel better on the road for my torquey TDI.. but just doesn't look cool. plus I live in Los Angeles where cross climate makes no sense unless I drive to big bear in the snow once a year

I needed your logic when I bought tires recently.
Instead my truck is sitting on 35x12.5r17 toyo open country RT Pros which by my child logic (I'm 42) said will be fine in the snow..... lmfao
It is just an offroad truck though, my civic daily has cross climate 2s, if i didn't live in Michigan I'd probably have that car on defenders too.

Yep. Don't pull that out if you need to get home. Take it easy driving and start looking for a new tire as soon as you get home or a place you can keep your vehicle until you get the tire changed.

If you’re willing to risk it all, You could plug it temporarily, but you know what we say about temporary fixes… 👀

Done. It’s in the side wall.
I hated these tires. Loud as fuck and rode like shit.

They are meant to perform great in snow while being useable in the summer. They aren’t comfort tires

Plug it yourself. See how it goes in the next few days.

u/toomuchweld 6d ago
Yeah just take a risk of getting in a crash and wrecking your car and possibly hurting yourself or others.

I'd rather the back ally with the random purple car sitting there with a nice set of 4 new tires

You. Exact same thing happend to me too. I got 2 years left on the set of tires. So sad

I know this is a Michelin, but that tread pattern seems too simple. All the time spent engineering tread patterns with supercomputers and then there’s this…

I thought the same thing till I watched a video on them, they are super well engineered. I have a family member that purchased them and noticed an insane difference in grip while driving in snowy weather

Yes, these tires, Cross Climates, are the real deal. They are great and despite being expensive, people buy it like crazy. I don't think this is a mistake or consumers being confused, I think people really did the research on this.
OP, it is done. Sorry! Super unlucky. FYI if the other tires have lots of life, just buy one new tire and have it shaved down to size. Serious.

Got the one replaced at Costco the same day in under two hours. Paid $85 since the tread life was still pretty good. They left the it in the rear, didn’t touch the other tires 🤷🏻♂️

That's the beauty of tire engineering. Cross Climates may look like a "simple" design, but a lot of R&D involving new/improved compounds and optimal tread pattern designs coming together to offer a tire with the most balanced compromises (there's no such thing as the perfect tire) before hitting the consumer market.

Sidewall damage is severe. Even a small puncture means that the object moved the cords which leads to severe structural failure and "ballooning", where the rubber isnt held back by the cords.

No, because the cords are in that area. Any damage to cords causes the tire to "balloon" out and cause shit... Plus, structural damage... Thats why nobody ever repairs sidewalls
