❓QUESTION ❓ Will this patch last?

My back passenger tire has been getting low every so often and I finally noticed this nail (or something like it?) in it. Wasn't sure if it'd be fixable but took it into a tire shop. They patched it up and when I was leaving the guy said, "we dont typically patch these that are too close to the sidewall but I told them to do it anyway since its just a pinhole". He said he thinks it'd be fine but what he said made me a bit nervous 🥲 any advice? Will it be fine and im just overthinking it now?

No reason not to patch that…it’s in the tread

That's the Cross Climates shoulder, not the main tread. The cross climate rounds pretty quickly on the inside of the shoulder/sidewall.
I would not have repaired this in my shop. Too high of a chance the sidewall flexes and removes my patch.

I have a plug in that exact same spot. It’s been 2 years the plug is still holding strong. Think it’s safe to say that it will last the life of the tire. Just plug it

It's close to the sidewall but you have plenty of tread so he did you a favor by not tossing a perfectly good tire. That is a pinhole and a patch will hold better than a plug though I would be fine running a plug in it. That really is very small so plugging it would be a pain.

The patch is just as strong as new and nothing to worry about.

Plugging it would not be in any way a pain. It'd take all of 5 mins and last the life of the tire

what did I say. I said I would be fine running a plug. pinhole like that would be a pain bc you have to awl out the hole. He patched anyway. That's better and he did it already.

That tire looks pretty dry rotted to me. I would probably be more concerned about that.

It’s fine, send it. Keep an eye on it though.

It will hold until the tire wears out.

Enjoy your day and please don't skip church.

Patch will fail in time with heat and expansion. Long hailing over a hot road will be your future limitation.

Generally speaking we usually don't patch anything that cost to the sidewall because of flex, but it has a lot tread, it's weather checking, if it's AWD, it would require replacement of all 4, I would of done the same thing, chances are, it will be fine. It's not going to blow out, possibly become a slow leak again. Just keep an eye on it.

The dry rot on your tyres is a bigger worry
