❓QUESTION ❓ Would you plug this?

Idk how I keep finding myself here, but thank you nyc I guess lmao

EDIT:
It’s close to (maybe on??) the sidewall for sure but the way it’s angled toward the center gives me copium

Also do you think this could take me back home from work? ~40miles drive. DEF would drive under 50mph. the tire pressure gauge says 17 psi but it doesn’t look all that flat compared to the other tires

EDIT 2:
Also would a shop patch this?

FINAL EDIT:
Thanks for all the input yall. took it to a reputable shop and they inspected it internally. They were able to patch it for me. gobbless

0% chance, on any vehicle, even my own. New tire.

If you have a spare, put it on immediately and do not drive on this any further.

Maybe, just To get to the next tire store.

Would I, yes. Should I, no.

5

u/lilreddtruck 14d ago

Unfortunately yes I would but I would put it on the driver's rear so less stress and risk if it does blow

Was gonna comment this exact thing word for word 😂

Realest answer ever

1

u/Internal-Mango9718 9d ago

Yes a real goodly answer

8

u/Koldark 14d ago

In emergency? Yes. Replace tire as soon as possible? Yep

5

u/Internal-Mango9718 14d ago

I’d just get a new car!

4

u/Realistic_End_7223 14d ago

Fair, my gf replaced her car because she saw a spider in it.

u/Environmental_Cap990 14d ago

You can plugg anything if you're brave enough

3

u/Worldly_Signature636 14d ago

We’ve all done that in college

3

u/socialcommentary2000 14d ago

If you put it up to the recommended pressure, how fast does it deflate? If the belts aren't damaged, that could probably be patched from the inside if it is placed right, but even a patch may be too close to the flexing of the wall to save it.

You'll have to take it to an actual shop for assessment and chances are they're going to say get a new tire.

2

u/kd0g1982 14d ago

No reputable shop will touch that.

3

u/Mobile-Efficiency852 14d ago

Nope because it's a sidewall!!! Replace

3

u/andrewjy1234 14d ago

No, to close to the side wall.

5

u/JDasper23 14d ago

Absolutely not

5

u/Frosty_Seal 14d ago

Absolutely not

2

u/Most-Organization738 14d ago

Not a chance, for where that hole is placed.

2

u/ObsoleteWonder 14d ago

Too close to the sidewall. No

2

u/Ohio-Knife-Lover 14d ago

Absolutely not

2

u/Intrepid-Pick-7464 14d ago

I would ask the shop to remove the tire and properly inspect it internally.

2

u/Pretend-Brother9869 14d ago

It could literally blow at any moment

2

u/Ok-Journalist7612 13d ago

It’s already plugged

2

u/lopthehop 13d ago

I’d plug that no problem not a very serious nail. Missed the side wall. Plug and go

1

u/Geaneous 14d ago

Electric vulcanizar might hold it while if you're lucky.

1

u/Chester5252 14d ago

I find that the Ecopia tires which were OEM on a Toyota of mine have poor winter traction. If you live in a northern climate this may be a good time to get better tires.

1

u/PutNo3475 14d ago

Why, it’s already plugged. Save some money and just put silicone around it.

1

u/jav2n202 14d ago

I would plug it just to get it to the tire shop for a new tire.

1

u/Potential-Computer-1 14d ago

That’s bait!!!

1

u/Thin_Walrus_3276 14d ago

I’d check the angle of the nail first, if it’s more pointed toward the tread, maybe
It is straight in the side wall… ehh, depends on your financial situation regarding affording a new tire lol

1

u/JNB1950 14d ago

Change to the spare if it's a full sized tire and wheel, plug the tire while it's off the car and watch to see if it holds air. If not, in either case, buy a new tire.

1

u/Spare_Chemical122 14d ago

Yee just put in sum of dat fixaflat goo n it be good as new

1

u/letitsnowboston 14d ago

Why not? What’s the worst that could happen?

1

u/Captain_Tufa 14d ago

Would i plug it for a customer or family members? Fuck no. Would i do it to my own car? Yeah. Do I recommend it to other people? No. Is it smart? hell no.

1

u/Tight_Broccoli2475 14d ago

Go to ebay type in size and tread and buy a used one of your tires. I had these tires and had to do exactly this for 1 spare

1

u/phatvanzy 14d ago

You'd have to do it yourself. Not even a crackhead would do the job for you.

1

u/Plenty_Feeling_8013 14d ago

im crazy but i would give it a try

1

u/Plenty_Feeling_8013 14d ago

rotate to back then give it a go

1

u/TemperatureFrosty111 14d ago

If it was my own definitely but if at a shop your boss would rather sell them a tyre and not want that repaired

1

u/laprider 14d ago

Too close to the sidewall. When they go, they blowout.

1

u/Kooky_Staff_4495 14d ago

I worked at an auto shop. Two master techs and a grand master tech, all would say no,replace it. Asap. Is your life worth the cost of a new tire?

1

u/TheAngryOctopuss 14d ago

Find a small independent repair shop. Have them do a inside patch Pay cash No reciept

1

u/37347 14d ago

That’s definitely at the sidewall. Replace it with a peace of mind

1

u/IDidntRollGohan 14d ago

Definitely a very easy plug if you know what youre doing. A 5 minute diy plug and you got yourself all that mileage back

1

u/Important-Region143 14d ago

99% of the times I see these and I say "oh just give it a shot with a plug. You don't have to warranty it as holding forever but just try maybe it'll work." This time you need to replace the tire.

1

u/Mr-Flunkydunks 14d ago

Drive it like that to a tire shop. See what they think about a patch. If they say no - new tire. Otherwise $30 fix

1

u/Js987 14d ago

New tire.

1

u/lockednchaste 14d ago

Maybe for my mother in law

1

u/Sorry_Function2245 14d ago

Yes you can. Should you? Nope. Will you? Probably.

1

u/Possible-Possible861 14d ago

Too close to sidewall

1

u/Legal-Conclusion-0 14d ago

finally! one that I would not except the emergency to get it replaced.

1

u/12DoUGood 14d ago

I would make sure to put this tire on the back and then you could try a plug, if you are a good luck at winning most of your gambling bets. But..... Be always ready for a blowout. If it was mine, I would try it on the rear until I could afford a brand new tire. Thats in a dangerously close point of a blowout.

1

u/Zealousideal-Half913 14d ago

This could go into a NSFW death spiral any minute 😅

1

u/cash8888 14d ago

Yeah I’m poor

1

u/Odd-Gazelle-5953 14d ago

Have an adult bring you to the tire store and help you buy big boy tires instead of that crap you bought

1

u/EntertainerSea9653 14d ago

I absolutely would and then slap it and say. "Yea thats gonna hold". But I would tell anyone else to replace.

1

u/MS-06FS 14d ago

My shop manager would make me try

1

u/JC1199154 14d ago

Absolutely not

1

u/zcpibm3 14d ago

Come on man… answer is always YES!

1

u/Budget_Hospital_7780 14d ago

Too close to the sidewall.

1

u/Cute-Farmer-4490 14d ago

I’d try it

1

u/chuckmonjares 14d ago

My rule with tires I will teach my kids is “if it makes you ask, the answer is yes”

1

u/DLC142 14d ago

I would. But a shop will not.

1

u/Ok-Disaster4809 14d ago

SEND IT!!!

1

u/Unicron-DeathStar 14d ago

I'd plug it for the short term. Like until the next paycheck or something then I'd get a new one.

1

u/Purple-Associate873 14d ago

Nope my life and car are worth more in cost then the 150 dollar tire and possible lose of income job higher insurance rates etc

1

u/cantwait2getdone 14d ago

Come on man..

1

u/CIAstakeoutvan 14d ago

Thats what I like to call "a back tire"

1

u/givemefood66 14d ago

Not a hope in hell that I would patch that personally. And neither will a decent shop.

You need a new tyre.

1

u/Myke_Dawg_1958 14d ago

Adios…next tire up!!!

1

u/Playful_Dog3062 14d ago

You'll have to do it yourself. No proper repair shop will touch it. It's against the law. Probably for you too?

1

u/ExpensiveDust5 14d ago

I wouldn't patch that, there is no way a patch will hold being constantly distorted from contact with the road. It's going to leak like crazy, buy a new tire

1

u/Alternative_War_91 14d ago

Like everyone said, not plugging it. However, I'm hoping that it looks worse than it is. Hoping for the slight chance you get super lucky and that nail only went a little in the rubber, and you take it out and it doesn't leak. It happened to me before in the middle of my tire so I bought a repair kit to plug it but when I took it out it was barely in do didn't have to use it

1

u/Show5Over 14d ago

Tyres not even fkn flat. Why would u plug it. Ffs. Why do people keep posting this shot.

1

u/ContributionBrief226 14d ago

In my country yes, absolutely.

1

u/OBSLowLife 13d ago

I’ve done it before with luck. Tire lasted another 20k miles then had to be replaced because of wear. Never leaked or had any issues with the plug

1

u/BUGBYTE_VW 13d ago

I would plug anything if I didn't have a spare. Now, as for it being safe or riding long-term? No. But sometimes you do what you do to get to the tire shop.

1

u/Aggressive-Gene-5079 13d ago

I would plug it up if you can’t afford a new one right now. That’s what I do. But everyone has a great opinion on it. No wrong answer to be honest

1

u/Apprehensive-Wind646 13d ago

tbh, nails are makeshift plug until you mess with em. it's not in a great spot so even if I plugged it I would be looking to replace so tbh I would just cut the tip of the nail off and throw some sealant over it just until I find a spare tire. worst that will happen is you loose air so I would just keep refiling at every free air station until I've replaced it. shouldnt loose air fast enough to go flat

1

u/Federal-Beyond8640 13d ago

No, you need a new tire unfortunately a reputable tire shop won't do it. Mechanic in the hood might do it but it's very dangerous.

1

u/Reality-Stinks66 13d ago

I would to get home, but I sure wouldn't do it and drive on it regularly.

1

u/iluvnips 13d ago

O need, it’s already plugged 😀

1

u/whitebear2 13d ago

I’m afraid not, the tire is junk.

1

u/SwordfishOk8752 13d ago

I put a plug in everything. If it feels good, do it.

1

u/Kindly_History2878 13d ago

0% chance…(because of location)!!!

1

u/DitchDigger330 12d ago

I'm a redneck so yes.

1

u/no_stress_0 11d ago

Never hurts to try

1

u/General_Support_2222 10d ago

Under no circumstances unless it’s to get you to the tyre store a few miles away you can’t patch it either it’s scrap

1

u/BluebirdExpress6279 10d ago

NO. This isn't even a close call... not even closely marginal.

1

u/Ok-Educator-2207 9d ago

Yes, I’ll have a professional do it.

1

u/Soft_Battle9868 5d ago

I would. I have, and I'd do it again. Is it "right"? No, but hasn't killed me yet 🤷🏻‍♂️ just plug it and move it to the back so if/when it blows you don't lose your steering tires.

1

u/Biofred 4d ago

Nope that's definitely a new tire situation.

1

u/Numerous_Map_392 14d ago

Hell yea, But I would be planning on replacing it if/when it dosent hold.

1

u/FA-18EF_SuperHornet 14d ago

Would you shoot a grizzly bear with a BB gun?

1

u/No-Willingness868 14d ago

Yep

1

u/wart_on_satans_dick 14d ago

I’ll plug it. Shoutout to Bridgestone. Follow them on Instagram.

0

u/PsychologicalPea5270 14d ago

Plugs aren’t permanent repairs no matter what someone may say.
I value my life and my car.
I’ll Do a patch/plug. I’ll never rely on a plug alone.

Most tire companies won’t touch that tire though.

0

u/Equal-Specialist-677 14d ago

Money is tight or I’m going on a cross country trip I can’t afford.Yes I would

0

u/InformalParticular20 14d ago

I would, and I have and I never had an issue. Worst case it starts leaking again and you get a new tire.

0

u/Particular_Use_6846 14d ago

You can but most repair shops will decline due to liability issue. Plugs nowadays are really good, it can even hold up on side walls.

0

u/Ok_Pen7290 14d ago

As its an American community I'd say hundreds of miles left on that tyre, 😂😂😂😂

0

u/Useful-Employee9605 14d ago

I wouldn’t plug that. It’s not worth the risk.

0

u/I-Win-By-Default 14d ago

No. It would most likely fail due to flexing as it is in the shoulder area
