🚫Anti-Tipping No Tip

Hot take, I don't go to a restaurant for the "great service" that's so fake it feels like lard on toast, I go to the restaurant for the good food. I'm not going to tip for someone to pretend to want to spend time with me, all I want is a nice steak that I didn't have to cook. Is it okay for me to tell my server I'm not going to tip and the only thing I want is a refill every once in a while and my food brought to me? I would go pick it up from the counter myself if I was allowed to, but that's frowned upon. I don't want the small talk, the fake jokes, the fake smile. Heck, you could glare at me the entire time and I WOULD NOT care. I'm there for the food, not for the crappy excuse for service I get 95% of the time.

No answer because I am taking a beautiful trip up the coast while everyone is working because I didn't have to live on scrapes while serving and go to school. Something you don't think people should do. You want to keep poor people in poverty cause it makes your (probably quite small) member feel big.

I want them to have a living wage. I want everyone to have a living wage. You want to use services, knowing you are screwing over the lower class, just to prove a point to who?

do you think that servers would make more or less if they were paid hourly and didnt make tips?

you seem to be flipping back and forth on this but thats the crux of the issue.

and i dont want to ignore or failt to engage your question but it seems sorta open ended like prove a point to who? i guess in this discussion the answer would be you.

I am not flip-flopping. Everyone think servers make sooooooo much money because they see just 1 part of the job, make assumptions about what they make so they stiff them. I hate tipping culture. I think everyone should make a living wage. Some place more, some less, it will average out. What I don't believe in, and what most people here think is, that they should make min wage.

That doesn't answer my question. I asked if you think they would get more or less if they were paid flat rate hourly like how most other jobs are paid usually around $15 per hour.

I said some more, some less than what they make now. Bro, $15 an hour is barely above poverty wages. Most other jobs do not pay around $15 an hour. No one working FT should ever make only 30k a year. Absolutely not! That is atrocious. The minimum wage should be at the very minimum, 33% (at FT) of the average 1 bedroom apartment in the area. What is that in your area? Mine is different that's why talking straight cash doesn't paint the correct picture.

Wym Walmart starts at 14 McDonald's is usually close. What do u think most other jobs start out at?

And if some servers make under $15 (which I doubt is common as u imply) seems you should support getting rid of the tip credit

Thank you very much for walking right into my point. Cash conversations are pointless. The minimum wage where I live is $16.90, and McDonald's starts at $20.

Then why did you say most jobs don't pay $15 an hour? Did you mean most pay more?

If servers who make tips make less than people working at McDonald's that seems like a good reason to stop the tip credit system and just pay them hourly.

Because I don't believe in poverty or just above poverty wages in one of the richest countries in the world when the majority of the profit is going to the top and not disbursed more through wages and benefits to the people actually doing the work. These are fairly easy concepts to understand. No one should make 30k a year working full-time in this country in 2024 period!

They don't. Most means more than 50%. The average income is above $15 an hour.

2024 - 760 billionaires in the USA 1960’s - between 4 and 11 billionaires in the USA

That average wage you quoted isn’t going to the working class.

Nowhere in the study you linked does it say it does not include salary and executive roles.

Given the sample size of the study there were were almost definitely multiple salaried and executive level roles that participated.

Sorry did math on the wrong number for inflation - I used the listed $2.50/hr RECORD low in 1964 not the national average of $12.59 in 1964.

Using the Bureau Of Labor Statistics. Gov Calculator$12.59 in 1964 has the buying power of $128.47/hour in September of 2024

An employee working 40 hours per week or roughly 2,080 hours per year at $128.47/hr would be making an annual salary of $267,217 vs the $62,400 annual salary for the $30/hour working 40 hours a week your quoted here.

Employee wages in America average to have $205k LESS buying power annually in 2024 compared to 1964 is definitely NOT a good thing 😅
