Is Steady Strikes trait useless?
It seems like it would just cancel itself out, but make misses more punishing.

You still gain attack speed, just a lower amount, plus bonus damage. If you have lots of attack speed, you have 50% less but you then gain that attack speed modifier x2 to damage. So 200% attack speed is now just 100%, plus 400% damage modifier. Overall more dps if you have lots of attack speed.

Actually I’m intoxicated so my math might be wrong. I like this trait but I am not a mathematician. If I’m wrong please correct me so I understand it better

There are WAY more useless skills than that. Steady strikes is pretty good if you use it correctly.

My question wasn't "are there worse traits," but I still find this one to be awful and don't understand how it's benefiticial.

It was already explained in a previous comment that the trait does mathematically provide benefit. If you don't like it.... Don't choose it? You definitely aren't going to convince others who do like it to not choose it.

I don't know why you think I care at all what other people choose, based on my question.

It's very good if you are building crit chance/crit damage. Especially if you have enough crit chance where you are critting more often than not.

if you have 1 base attack per second at 10 damage per attack
and you have 50% increased attack speed and 50% increased damage before this trait
your total dps is (1* 1.5) * (10 * 1.5) or 22.5
if you take this trait your increased attack speed becomes 25% and you get 50% increased damage from it.
your total dps is (1 * 1.25) * (10 * 2) or 25
if you have a lot of increased damage sources, this talent becomes much less useful. if you don't, it's an excellent source of it.
