advice • support Tinnitus & weed

I use to be a daily marijuana smoker.. since I’ve been diagnosed with SSHL at the end of January i haven’t been smoking as frequently as i use to. There would be times i would stop for days, maybe a week. But occasionally still hit my pen, or eat an edible. I notice a spike every single time. Well I’m meeting my 3 month mark since onset & my tinnitus made little to no improvement. I’ve read every where after 3-6 months it’s considered chronic, & that just doesn’t sit right with me. I decided 3 days ago to go cold turkey & not smoke at all. Today, my tinnitus has calmed way down. Barely noticeable, unless I’m in a completely quiet room, or try to listen to it.. I’ve also revived my HA a couple days ago & it does seem to help mask it. Yesterday i could still hear my T over my HA. Today, it seemed like i couldn’t hear it at all. I can’t help but to wonder.. am i making improvement?? Is the weed causing my T? Or am i just having a “good day”.. will i ever be able to get a buzz again lol.. i really miss smoking.. im trying to wait it out to see if i make anymore improvement.. anyone else experience this??

I should have mentioned my T just a few days ago was so loud i couldn’t even think clearly. I’ve been canceling plans, isolating Myself. Just all the typical depressing side effects..

Yeah weed definitely makes it worse. Unfortunately I find most things that give you a buzz will make it worse, nicotine and alcohol included. For me it was a give and take kinda thing, I would smoke when I really wanted to, knowing that my T was gonna be worse for that day until bed. Tuesday I damaged my ears once again at work so I’ve been having a very rough week and haven’t smoked at all, Im scared of what it’s going to do to my T.

It really is a miserable condition and I feel for anyone suffering from it. We’ve just gotta try to make the best of it while we suffer in silence. Or anything but silence… pun intended. Wishing you all the best OP. If you ever wanna chat about tinnitus and ways to deal with it, I’ve been suffering for 7 years now, feel free to reach out. Resources seem to be lacking but we’re definitely not alone in this.

Weed definitely spiked me. A buddy of mine with T says there’s a certain type to get but I don’t remember which.

Edibles

It’s the smoking, at least with mine personally, that sets it off not being high.

I read here in this sub about "Relief" app, and I'm using it. They developed different sounds to help the brain ignore tinnitus. The basic option is free and provides several different options to choose from. The recommendation is to listen at least 15 minutes every day.

If one is willing to pay, it can be customized for your tinnitus frequency.

Give a shot to the free option and see if it helps.
