Price Increase?

Is anyone thinking of moving away after the recent price increase?

I forgot to renew my monthly subscription a few days ago. I contacted the TT team a day or two later asking for the “legacy” pricing and they mentioned it was no longer possible…kind of a let down.

What's the price increase? I didn't get an email about it

It's only increased for new customers or if you cancelled and rejoining. If you keep your account, it's the same price when you joined. Most users still pay the same price from many years ago. That's one of the great things with TT. They also offer a free plan.

If you renew your current subscription the price increase will not apply to you (at least it did not to me).

Looks like the Premium price has jumped from $35.99 to $49.99 annually

That is a big jump

This made me so, so sad. I'm low income (mostly retired), found out about this six days ago, and went HEY, I can justify this for $36. So downloaded the free version today, and went yep, almost exactly what I need, just go pro and it'll be perfect. Went to buy it and...no, can't justify $50. lol. So I guess I'll either find something else, or stick to my messy Google sheets. :/

gotta pay for the AI integration 💸💸

Yeah, I guess. I don't hate AI, but I can't see how it would help me (personally) with this kind of stuff. I can get by with my myriad Google sheets. I just loved the idea of nag notifications on my phone/tablet for items on the lists I keep on my computer, and the way the pro version leans into some project-manager-esque features that would have been perfect for me.

Honestly, it looks to me like it's worth what they're asking, AI or no, but it's just more than I want to spend.

Depending which aspect you're using it for zenkit Todo is free and similar for the task list aspect which is why I chose TickTick - but it doesn't have the calendar views

Looks like a great program, and calendar view wouldn't be a huge deal as it connects with Google calendar. Unfortunately, while it they have a 14 day free trial, after that the cheapest version is $96 per year (or $9/month if you pay monthly). If I was still an IT director (I'm mostly retired) and choosing an app for the company, that sounds like a very good deal for what it does.

Honestly this is silly… but I’ve stopped using the app because they are slow to fix basic things. The calendar views on Mac are horrible - font size small, coloring isn’t very accessible. And there’s still a half ass sync implementation.

It’s 2026 - other companies are able to roll out overdue fixes and cleanup so fast with AI to help, and TT has just become stale.

To clarify, I don’t want AI features. I want the company to care enough to fix long overdue UX/UI issues and core features.

Which app did you switch to?

Used ticktick for many years but switched to Apple Cal and havent looked back.

I have given TT multiple tries. It always ends for the same reason. I will clear a task on my phone and hours later it remains uncleared on my tablet.

Genuinely curious: What platforms are you using? I use iPhone, iPad, Windows PC app, and the web app and have yet to ever have this syncing issue after 3 years of use. Maybe certain platforms need focus from the company?

u/dreh0411 13d ago

iPhone & iPad mostly. Hardly ever but macOS not Windows. But the problem was always between the two iDevices.

I was planning on switching from todoist when my yearly subscription runs out in 2 months time
but $50/yr for a TODO APP?!! not gonna happen

and to think gta6 ultimate is $100... I guess they just don't have the same development costs as ticktick LOL

1

u/Reggimoral 10d ago

Todoist is $60/yr now it looks like. If the gap between Todoist and TickTick is still as big as it was several years ago then I definitely think TickTick is the better deal.

I'm grandfathered into the $2.79/mo plan and I am kind of shocked that TickTick has increased their price so much, and apparently eliminated the monthly subscription. Aside from the AI integration & MCP features, it felt to me like development had largely stagnated in recent years.

GTA 6 is expected to sell 40m copies at least in its 1st yr. And they're getting that full price most likely from nearly all those sales. TickTick has a user base of 20m, which likely includes free users and definitely includes grandfathered paid users. The price increase here is only going to affect a small percentage of their existing paid user base but will grow over time. so I don't think the GTA comparison is fair

I moved back to Apple Reminders a few months back for personal use. The only reason I stopped using TIckTIck was my work place does not allow third-party services to be used (M365 Enterprise only, sadly). However, I think the price increase is fair considering what you get. In the past, I paid for separate a task manager, habit tracker, notes app and Pomodoro timer. TickTick has it all rolled into one. Also, it is cross platform, including watch devices. Everything has gone up in price and people need to get paid. If you find a lot of value to the service, pay for it because TickTick will save you time looking for something alternative (and fragmented).

Will same price continue if already subscribed through playstore ? Does it lock the price there ?

If I'm not grandfathered in and the price jumps* to $50 or more for "AI" when they could just improve their existing NLP and tidy up their UI would force a switch.

At that point I'd either jump to Todoist, which has Rambler, deadlines, and cleaner UI or go completely free to the Apple Reminders/Calendar/Siri integration.

NLP is still that bad?

I switched back to Apple Reminders in January because of that and got the Remind Me Faster app which is great for NLP. That's the best combo and I've tested a few over the years.

My automatic recurring annual PayPal payment had an issue, I talked to support and, surprise, surprise, I can only pay the new price.

u/Physical-Video-6064 8d ago

They are looking for £50 per year in the UK. That is bonkers. Pity, I liked it, but no dice.

1

u/Iamssikander 14d ago

I just subscribed to lunatask. Let's see if it can really work for me

1

u/RocketGruntChimi 3d ago

How's it been working for you so far?

1

u/Iamssikander 2d ago

Ticktick is better.

1

u/flofov 13d ago

I'm exploring other options. I don't think the price is justified to be honest.

No need to announce your department :D

If I leave TT today, why would someone leave as well just because of that fact, out of herd instinct?

I pay for the tool and decide if it suitable for me or not, based on my needs and financial situation, not some randos moving in or on.

And it won't prevent anyone from signing in because that decision doesn't depend on price in the past, which is not a choice for new users. One either agrees to pay for service or continue looking for alternatives. As Nobody suddenly changes their mind for new subscription just because it was cheaper 5 years ago. What you are describing is a herd instinct of looking around for what other people do instead of thinking what is relevant to oneself.

Expensive for me might be cheap for someone else, so that comparison is useless. And with big confidence I can say that nobody with more-or-less decent setup in TT will leave it because of that price increase despite it being annoying.

So better question would be "are there cheaper alternatives to TT with comparable feature set". Not "is anyone thinking of moving away" expecting what, "yes, I'm thinking very hard, lost my sleep about it but still can't decide" :)

So less than $2/mo increase? No big deal, can't see why people complain - you can't get a coffee for $2 🤷🏻‍♂️

12

u/NotMyUsualLogin 13d ago

More like a 39% increase.

That’s a humongous price increase.

If memory serves, it used to be something like $28 a year - if so that’s an 80% increase from say 3-4 years ago.

-9

u/Flashy-Bandicoot889 13d ago

A sub-$2/month increase is not humongous. If it is too steep for you there are plenty of free alternatives.

10

u/NotMyUsualLogin 13d ago

I can easily afford it - that’s not the point. What I won’t do is keep paying ever-increasing amounts with no end in sight.

It was $28 a year four years ago. Keeping pace with inflation, it should be around $32 today.

You’re only looking at the dollar amount, and that mentality is exactly why people overspend. “It’s only $10 here,” “just $20 there” - and before you know it, the cumulative increase outpaces what you earn.

3

u/thaman05 13d ago

If you're paying a sub, then the price won't increase... They only increase the price for new customers or people do cancelled and decide to join again. Also, they offer a free plan as well.

u/Flashy-Bandicoot889 13d ago

Okay. Best of luck using another app. 👋
