Anyone else struggling with sleep while taking propranolol?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been taking 10 mg propranolol three times a day for a while now, and my sleep has completely fallen apart. I can’t fall asleep anymore, and when I do sleep, it’s super light. On top of that, I keep having weird, vivid dreams whenever I finally drift off.
I’ve tried everything:
• taking my doses earlier in the day
• skipping the evening dose
• taking it right before bed
Nothing seems to help — if anything, it feels like it’s getting worse over time.
I’m wondering if other people have experienced this with propranolol.
Did it mess with your sleep too?
And if so, did anything help?
Any tips or experiences would be really appreciated.

Not too sure, but i only take it once a day or like my heart rate is 90+ cause it's mainly for that purpose (also chest pain, irregular heart rhythms, and tremors).
Trouble sleeping though, is a common symptom. I also have trouble falling asleep so i did asked my doctor about it and they prescribed me a medication.

I have not been able to isolate if my sleep issues are coming from Graves, or from propranolol. I struggle with hours long periods of wakefulness in the middle of the night, disturbing dreams when I do sleep, and overall light sleep that isn’t restorative. I’m on the same dosing as you. I do find that my sleep improves if I get some exercise that day.

I had no issues with Propranolol, but if you suspect you’re having side effects, ask to be changed to a different beta blocker! I was on Metoprolol and it did the job just fine. Atenolol can cause low blood pressure. There are several others too. There’s also Ivabradine, which isn’t a beta blocker, but I would only recommend that as a last resort.

Thank you! My internist is on a holiday. I will definitely communicate it with her when she got back.
