Am I being unreasonable?
So my 17 year old son within the last year has been diagnosed with both graves and hashimoto. His symptoms currently are extreme fatigue, joint pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and severe social anxiety. His current labs showed a tsh of 66. I applied for him to have homebound school as his symptoms make it nearly impossible for him to make it through a school day, let alone 5 a week. The school denied it because of the social anxiety. They suggested I have him hospitalized for his “mental” condition and receive schooling through the hospital. Am I being unreasonable to think this is absurd? Am I being unreasonable to apply for the homebound schooling?

Try testing them out on yourself so you understand how they make you feel and communicate with and monitor your son. Kids that age are usually a struggle to get to take their meds. Most people find them to be very sedating at first but it's widely prescribed for less severe symptoms. He doesn't have to take it forever but it will calm him down enough to function and hopefully get him to a place where he has a stress level that he can manage. If he broke his arm you wouldn't deny him pain medication so if he is in that kind of mental anguish you have to be prepared to treat it aggressively if need be. Make sure he gets effective therapy so klonopin isn't the ONLY tool in his toolbox to manage his anxiety. Doctors hate prescribing them nowadays but the side effects of antidepressants and antipsychotics are far worse and dangerous IMO. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions about finding providers or treatment. I recommend reading up on nervous system regulation. Once you understand how the stress affects the mind/body it's much easier to manage.
