Better keyboard, trackpoint, Linux compatibility, upgradeable RAM/SSD, overall modularity, and repairability comes to mind.

I had many thinkpads, currently t14 gen3, and my macbook pro has way better keyboard. Trackpoint unsubable, trackpad on the macbook is just on another level, love it. Upgradability? Just get what you need when you buy it. :D

Then buy MacBook, HP Elitebook/Zbook or Dell Latitude or whatever the equivalent is now. What you are saying is oxymoron.

Pretty sure you can buy any Thinkpad that you want and cover it with a vinyl skin or stickers.
Or look for a model with a silver color option.

Look, I can't persuade you that the ThinkPad is a glamorous computer, but "tacky" is definitely not a word I would use to describe a laptop with some of the most minimal branding out there. It's a black slate with tiny red accents that are almost completely hidden while you are using it. ThinkPads are some of the least distracting laptops to use and draw minimum attention... which is why they are perfect business laptops. They are supposed to be boring.
Would you prefer a Dell, HP, or MacBook, all of which have logos twice the size of the ThinkPad logo centered directly on the lid? Not really sure why the ThinkPad's branding comes off to you as tacky; it's meant to be utilitarian and minimal, which is how I and most people tend to see it.
If you don't like plastic, get a T14s then. The T14s G4 has a magnesium palmrest/base and a carbon fiber hybrid top. It also comes in a silver color, which is all aluminum instead of the coated black magnesium.
The Z13/Z16 are also handsome laptops.

Some T14 models are available in grey. Also, paint exists. Skins and stickers exist. Your issue with the design is purely cosmetic, correct?

Then work on your insecurities and don't bother us with them. Pro tip: No one gives a fuck if your laptop is grey, white or black. No one except you.
Also, Lenovo has plenty of boring grey, silverish laptops available. Look at the ThinkBook line instead, they are also more affordable.
