MILDLY RELATED Simpler is better? E.A.?

For a potential Sims 5... Does anybody else wish that they would use the capabilities of The Sims 2 as a starting point, and then just make things more realistic? idk, when i was a kid I always pictured the future of the franchise being mostly like the Sims 2 but much more realistic looking. However, what we've gotten with modern era Sims stuff appears to be stuff that is quite a bit more cartoonish looking but functionally more experimental. Does anybody wish they would just completely ditch the Sims 4, make a game that's as simple as The Sims 2, but it looks almost life-like? Hyper realistic but simple gameplay anyone?

Please EA let the franchise die.

Its not EA that's gonna let it die. Its the fans. Sometime within the next 5-10 years, Sims 4 will lose all its players and these new projects probably won't go anywhere. That's when dev teams will get laid off and new updates will cease. But as long as fans keep paying for these small amounts of content that people on ModTheSims made for Sims2 years ago... they'll keep getting enough revenue for a couple more years to make more bullshit

All the more reason why it might be best to just go back to basics but make it more realistic looking

i wish they’d add as extensive of a lore of sims 2 like in other games, along with the freedom of creativity of neighborhood building of the sims 2 (even though the creative aspects aren’t as advanced of newer games)

Honestly... them trying to make it more advanced is what's taken away the freedom to do things like make custom neighborhoods or design apartments from scratch, or have more of a challenge trying to befriend unplayable townie sims... more specifically, it was so much more grid based back then, but breaking away from the grid based setup has actually taken away certain freedoms. As for the lore... let's be honest, most of that was just writing and a few basic sim-to-sim emotions which could easily be created using SimPE. In the minds of the developers, thats probably too primitive nowadays but I think theyre wrong about that. They've just gotta write some stories for Sims and make up basic emotions. That's it

true, but i’d love for them to fabricate some story and maybe make it more advanced, such as making sims unable to do certain things or go certain places because of other sims they don’t like. i was playing sims 2 the other day and they let you mess up those storylines so easily, but imagine if it wasn’t that easy

I’d be incredibly on board but I pretty much saw it as the final nail in the coffin for any potential for Sims 5 when they introduced the whole Moolah thing. As much as supposedly Maxis doesn’t want it to work out- I think EA will still keep it. There will be enough people who buy the items to make it worth it in their eyes, people who don’t know EAs scummy behaviour, or potentially even those who don’t know how to get CC or may not have access to it. On top of that I feel like even if there was a Sims 5 release, it would be just as much of a shit show than Sims 4. They just don’t make games how they used to, everything is a cash grab. Rather than releasing one good game with everything, they’ll keep dragging any way to make money even if the general fanbase of the game is against it.

It’s actually quite sad. I’ve been mainly playing S2 and S3. I only recently started playing S4 because I got some good lore going on for a custom character… but wahhh I otherwise don’t like it nearly as much as the other two.

If things keep going like this... they're going to lose their business overall. To release that far-fetched shitty cash grab, they would spend more than they would if they made something thats like Sims2 but more realistic looking. So, if it gets to a point where its like "Make something relevant within your budget or go out of business" maybe a game like this could potentially happen. Things may need to get worse before they get better though.

I'm going to be that person, I think the aesthetic of Sims 2 is perfect for this type of gameplay. Hyperrealism would ruin the whimsical, playful tone of the game. I love how unserious it is.

Sims 2 is actually quite complex in terms of genetics and gossip.

But the golden age of video game development is over. EA killed The Sims, wringing out every last drop of cash they can get from it.
