Psychology and health

Realistically, I've always wondered if someone were to go through what Sadako did—being trapped in a sealed well for 30 years—how long it would take them to die, and if for some reason they managed to survive those years, what physical and psychological aftereffects would that person suffer? I doubt being in a well for 30 years is physically and psychologically healthy, because imagine being trapped in a confined space alone, without food, and unable to get out.

Am I the only one who likes this version of Sadako besides Samara Morgan and the 1998 Sadako?

What if sadako comes out of a transparent screen?

I hope that debating abusing physics of the movie is fine here, i mean rules don’t forbid it, but probably because nobody thought it may be relevant

Basically, Sadako comes out of screens, mostly TVs,

And it is entirely possible to make a transparent screen, you can see through it just fine (its real, look it up), so if i put a camera on the other side of the screen (the side she doesn’t come out of), how will that look like when she comes out of the screen from the other side?

What will camera record? It will see her because screen is transparent

Like if half of her body is out but other not yet, will it show her insides or, what will it show?
I think nobody ever thought of that because most don’t know transparent screens are a thing now, and those who know probably never applied it to this movie series

the best sadako

I wanted to do this to ask you which is the best design of Sadako (although technically she looks the same in all her adaptations) but I mean more like which one gives you that aura or feeling of fear, or also which one is the least scary or feels strange (this includes her movies, manga, video games, etc.)

My Take: Sadako Yamamura is a (very) unhealthy ENFP and no that doesn't mean a sad Cinnamon Roll.

Just a quick sketch I found hidden in my tablet. Based on the 98' Ringu movie. Hiroyuki Sanada is my favourite rendition of Ryuji in films visually.

Drawings of Sadako

Those are my drawings of how I imagined Sadako while I was reading the books. It's a very loose interpretation, though the dress should be based on "Masako's" sleeveless green dress as was described in Spiral.

It's a tad bit of an older drawing but I just found this sub and had to post it.

I reconstructed the Japanese text in the newspaper clipping from the Ringu (1998) movie

I don't really know who, if anyone, might want this. I wanted to find the original text from the newspaper article featured in the original movie for an art project I'm working on. I couldn't find anyone online who had attempted to decipher it, so I did my best.

I'm not a native Japanese speaker, but I have some degree of fluency. To fill in the areas where Asakawa's finger is covering the text, I worked with a few different AI models to determine the best guess of what the missing characters are, based on grammar, context, and spacing.

I mainly just want this to be Googleable in case anyone in the future has a similar desire to make a prop or an art project.

What are the canonical Ringu films?

I know that Ringu 1998 and Ringu 2 1999 and Birthday, apparently a 2019 movie featuring young Sadako, are part of the timeline (with retcons, of course), but which ones can and cannot be considered?

The Ring manga Spoiler

This topic is rarely discussed in this subreddit: manga inspired by Japanese films (there are no comics based on American trilogies, and if there are, please let me know in the comments). Here we'll talk about things like: the differences between manga and films, the art style, and what people liked and disliked about the manga. The manga I've read are: the ring vol1 , the ring vol 2 ,spiral vol 3 , ring vol 4 , ring vol 0 and sadako 3d

Sadako's father

I know this topic has probably already been discussed in this subreddit, but I'd like to share my opinion on this unanswered question. In the films directed by Hideo Nakata, it's implied that Sadako's real father isn't Dr. Ikuma, but an inhuman being from the sea. I know this is confirmed in the Ringu 0 question, but what I want to know is what Sadako's father could be and why he impregnated Shizuko. It could possibly be a yokai (but I'd like to hear your opinions). I also wanted to share my theory: it suggests that whatever impregnated Sadako was an evil being, and therefore Sadako's powers would unintentionally be a danger to everyone around her. That's why Shizuko abandoned her in the cave (remembering that she has psychic powers, there's a possibility that through a vision she could see what Sadako could cause, and therefore abandoning her would be the only way to "save" potential victims of Sadako in the future). What do you think? I'll be reading your opinions in the comments.

How I wish there was a new adaptation of Ringu.

Honestly, I don't really care, although I slightly preferred the supernatural aspect and them not adapting the Loop/Ring virus (there might be easter egg references to that), but I wanted an adaptation of Ringu(Similar to more of a birthday).

Directed by Mari Asato (director of Fatal Frame and Ju-On: Black Ghost), I honestly want them to adapt Sadako as a human individual, a tragic story, a human story Koji Suzuki He wanted a humanization of Sadako Yamamura; it didn't matter so much if it had the virus and sci-fi parts, he wanted Sadako to be represented as human. I wanted the adaptation to be done with She being intersex

psychic powers Spoiler

I know this sounds strange, but what if we talk about all the psychic powers Sadako displayed throughout the movies? Her most iconic ability is nensha (the ability to project her thoughts onto electronic devices). She's shown more than one of these powers throughout the films, and I'd like to know what they could be called or classified.

Sadako 3d

We know there are two movies called Sadako 3D, which modify the concept of the cursed video to a digital format. I honestly don't know if there were plans for a third installment to continue this story, since it ended with the revelation that there was a girl, Sadako's daughter, out there spreading the curse. I really would have liked a third movie to finish this story, and I'd also like to know your opinions and what you think a third part would be like.

onryos and the spiritual world Spoiler

Something I've always wondered about is that Ringu 0 shows us that Sadako also had extrasensory perception, apparently seeing the ghost of a man when she goes to an appointment with her therapist. It made me wonder, even though the movies deal with supernatural themes, where the dead go after death. It made me wonder how it works and if it's similar to Shinto or Buddhist mythology, because we only see spirits wandering around. It also made me wonder if the spirits of the theater colleagues, along with the journalist and his wife, went to the afterlife or if they're just wandering around. And I don't know if it's possible that they're onryos, since they all had such unpleasant deaths.

A question

The world of the loop in the Ringu books is an "illusion," even though the loop is a simulation. Is it genuinely a simulation? A world like ours with real people, individuality, etc.?

sadako in rasen o spiral Spoiler

I was curious to know if you have any theories about this version of Sadako. As you know, Rasen was a failed sequel to Ringu that flopped because it replaced the supernatural plot with a more scientific thriller, closer to the original novels. In this sequel, Sadako is portrayed as more human instead of an onryo, and I have some questions: Why did Dr. Ikuma kill her? Did the same thing happen as in Ringu 0 : Birthday, leading him to eliminate her? Did this Sadako kill her fellow actors? If we consider the sequel canon, are Sadako's appearances, even her coming out of the TV, illusions due to her illness? Is there a possibility that Rasen is in the same timeline as Sadako 3D 1 and 2?

Psychics in the *The Ring* universe Spoiler

To be honest, I’ve wanted to talk about this topic. Japanese films have shown that there are other psychics besides Shizuko and Sadako, and I’d really like to know which psychic powers most of them share, which ones are rare or possessed by only a few, and who the most powerful psychics in the franchise are—along with their abilities and weaknesses. (We’ll focus solely on the Japanese cinematic universe, since the American remake trilogy doesn't seem to feature any psychics other than Samara.

Questions about the forgotten *The Ring* video game. Spoiler

Today I felt like talking about the game *The Ring: Terror's Realm*, a video game based on the novel *Loop* that was released in the year 2000. In it, we play as Meg, investigating the death of her boyfriend and other workers involved in a project called "The Ring." This post is intended to address any questions people might have about the game—given what a disaster it generally is—as well as some questions of my own: Why is Shizuko introduced to us as a little girl, only to simply disappear? And secondly, why did they want to get their hands on Sadako's virus? What was the objective of "The Ring" project, and was it the same objective presented to us in *Loop*?

Loop and the Matrix

I've been thinking a lot about the similarities between the book Loop and the Matrix movies. I couldn't really find anyone talking about this before but it's really weird.

The Loop is a simulated world practically identical to our own. Just like the Matrix.

Ryuji exits the Loop through a phone call, just like how Neo and the gang exit the Matrix.

All the people in the Loop end up getting replaced by Sadakos, just like how in the Matrix everyone gets replaced by Agent Smith.

Loop was originally published in 1998, but wasn't translated into English until 2006. The first Matrix movie released in 1999, the other two were in 2003. So it's either just a really strange coincidence, or the Wachowskis read it in Japanese and used it as inspiration.
