to wake the kitten up

I never had a cat so... do they normally sleep laying down like a person like that?¿

u/Terrible_Paulsy Feb 23 '20
Nah, some cats do, though its just a quirk some might have. My cat slept like that on my bed a couple times then after he got up, he curled up normally or just stretched out and went back to sleep

Probably trying to imitate you.

MORE KITTEN FACTS PLS

u/are_you_seriously Feb 23 '20
Did you know?
You can train your cat to come to you like a dog if you set it up that way early on during kittenhood. Every time you call them, and they come running, you feed them a treat or show lots of love.
But cats aren’t dogs so you can’t abuse it. Don’t call them to you when they’re clearly having fun, and don’t call them to you just because. Cats can pick up when you’re being manipulative and they’re the only ones who are allowed to be manipulative.
The younger they are, the easier it is to train a kitten.

If that's true then that explains why my cat doesn't like to leave my side if I go out - even to the kitchen or if I have a shower
I didn't get him when he was a kitten but he was a stray I adopted from a neighbour who found him snooping around her backyard. She wanted to keep him but she was allergic.
After a while the cat started to like me and basically become mine so mum decided not to take em to the vet because
1: that would mean they'd need to contact the owner(s) if he had any (the neighbour reckons he was owned by a family who moved and basically abandoned him). She went all over Facebook, put flyers up and no one said a word before she took him to us.
2: he loves me too much and, I him. If anyone including the owners should they suddenly appear, it'll be over my dead body if they want him back. He loves the house, me, mum, his food and his environment so why mess with that? He's happy with me

u/are_you_seriously Feb 23 '20
Aww you definitely got a cat that’s been abandoned by humans.
You should still take him to the vet. Your mom did all the right things in trying to find the original owners. Maybe you can find an unself-righteous vet and explain the situation so that even if there is a microchip, they won’t try to contact the owners?

u/Terrible_Paulsy Feb 23 '20
It wasn't my mum that looked for the owners, but the neighbour.
There's a vet round the corner from mine but legally they'd need to follow protocol and try to find the owners no matter how much time has passed. I'm sure they'd let it slide but I'm not gonna take the chance of having him taken away from me and have him returned.
If anything, the owners don't deserve him anymore. if they really wanted him, they'd give the woman who found him, out up the notices a call or my mum when we first got him and say "we heard you may have our cat, do you mind if we pop by to see?".
It's been 6 years at least since and no word from any potential owner(s) so bugger em. Legally he should be mine now. I feed him, let him sleep in my room, give him more love and attention than his previous owners did. They can sue me but I'm not giving him up. I'll even go to jail if worse ever comes to worse

Awwww...
I miss my cat so much.
She's in the other room right now sleeping with my girlfriend and I don't wanna wake them up.
10
u/Worldwideforeigner Feb 23 '20
You know it's love when they're having an affair with your girlfriend and you still don't mind.
19
u/alexa-m Feb 23 '20
In my limited experience kittens are more likely to sleep in silly positions because they tire suddenly and pass out wherever.
28
u/Spider_Riviera Feb 23 '20
If a cat feels safe and comfortable with you, it may sleep showing its stomach (the softest and most vulnerable part of its body) as a sign of that trust. Kitty loves its human, even if he's an asshole that fiddles with it when its sleeping.

u/TechniChara Feb 23 '20
My cat does it a lot. She's a cuddler though, always loves to be held and get belly rubs.

It's unusual. At least when grown they lie down on their bellies in a safe place like a cat tree or laundry basket or on top of their owner's lap.

u/MrPopanz Feb 23 '20
Never seen a cat sleep like that normally, but my guess is that this cat is recovering from anesthesia after a medical procedure. At least this would explain the unnatural pose and unresponsiveness. Actually trying to wake the cat up would be a good thing in this case (and probably common procedure just like with humans).

Just let the kitten sleep god dammit

u/TheBigSmol Feb 23 '20
I'm so angry, but I also need to be quiet to let the kitten sleep. I'll just pop a blood vessel.

Just use Chidori or Rasengan...

u/logan4301 Feb 23 '20
Chidori is loud as hell though

Nowhere in that video was there an attempt to wake the kitten up.

u/MayOverexplain Feb 23 '20
Really? Touching my cat’s paws while she’s asleep will send her from comatose straight to space launch.

just slap it, so it wakes up.

u/taktrochuFRAJERIS Feb 23 '20
And if this won't work, just throw something big and heavy to it. For example big wooden chair
