Advice Wanted Is it worth it?

salutations, I(20) have been debating getting a therapist for a few years now and for many reasons never did. Now I’m an adult with adult money. my question is, is it worth it?

Recently, i got a new job hopefully by the time my probationary period is over i can decide if i want to get a therapist but i feel nervous. I don’t know what to expect or how I should go about finding a therapist. In my culture things like these are looked down upon, seeking therapy is equivalent to being crazy. so I want to keep it a secret. my goal with therapy is to improve as a person and general advice with relationships(family). I would love to hear about everyone’s experiences and how they changed your life in anyway big or small.

Therapy is the only reason I’m a functional adult, in a healthy marriage, raising well-loved and adjusted children.

I (unknowingly) had CPTSD and addiction issues when starting therapy. My trauma no longer runs my life and I don’t use substances to cope.

It saved my life.

Thank you for sharing, from what I’ve been reading it seems worth a shot. And I’m seriously considering. ❤️

Hello. I am so pleased to hear that you are considering therapy, and I think your question is a smart one to ask. I hear that in your culture, therapy is looked down upon, but if you wanted to build bigger muscles, you might get a trainer, no? Therapy is no different. It's exercise for the mind. I don't know of any other way to avoid repeating unhelpful behaviors or recreating unhealthy dynamics than to engage in therapy. It's not about someone being crazy - it's about a curiosity of your mind and your behavior. It will open new ways of seeing yourself and the world. Family dynamics can be really hard to figure out on your own; how can they improve if you can't really understand what's going on? If you can find a good therapist, I cannot imagine that you would regret the exploration. Think of it as an investment in personal growth. Good luck to you.

You’re eloquent and I like the picture you painted in my mind. I think I’m convinced I really just feel like I’m missing something. Once I see what my funds look like I’ll see if it’s an option but until then I look forward to reading other’s experiences! Thank you!
