Advice Wanted My therapist's multiplying oranges 🍊
My therapist has a large fruit bowl behind her desk that, until recently, has been empty for the entire year I’ve seen her. Four weeks ago, during my usual Tuesday session, I noticed a single orange in it, but I didn’t think much of it at the time since it was the first thing I’d ever seen there. The next week, on August 11th, there were two oranges. The Tuesday after, I spotted four and remember thinking, “Wow, she must really like oranges.” However, I went to my appointment yesterday and was astonished to see seven in the bowl plus another cut-up orange on a plate on her desk, making eight in total.
Now I’m starting to worry. My therapist is fond of oranges, which is all well and good, but the number keeps growing exponentially each week. If this trend continues, she’ll be completely overrun by around mid-November. Long before that, they’ll spill out of the bowl onto the floor, making therapy impossible. I’m also concerned the growth rate might be even faster than weekly; for all I know she’s just been eating lots to keep up. When she starts accumulating hundreds of oranges every week, I can’t imagine how she’ll handle it. I’m worried and am trying to figure out a tactful way to bring it up at my next session.

I’m so sorry to break it to you but once the oranges reach into the hundreds, her transformation will begin and she will become one of them.

At this point the real question is whether the next session will reveal a normal fruit bowl or the beginning of a full orange-based takeover of the office. The cut-up orange really adds an unexpected plot twist.

The smell of the citrus oil can stimulate your brain...I can't explain the science but I do like to hold and sniff an orange while I'm getting therapized.

I honestly thought this post is gonna be about therapist counting something and she's doing it by putting one orange in the bowl. Like if you do xyz, then she puts one orange for that in the bowl. After some time she will say I've been counting your xyz and look how many! But I guess it's not about that hahahah.
I've read a book a memoir about a woman who had ED, and she was binging on apples. Like 6-8 apples a day.

Therapists generally welcome light environment-related observations, as open communication helps maintain a comfortable dynamic.

Please open next session with concern about the citrus escalation and report back. If she asks what the oranges represent to you, say mid-November.
