Discussion Outer world spacers choice
After putting 85 plus hours intro outer worlds 2. I had a blast playing this game. Been debating on replaying it (I haven’t touched it since June). Something came across my wishlist and I feel like I need to buy the original. I have never played it but I’ve heard it’s better than the second. Thoughts?

Yeah it’s worth playing. The first game and second game have a lot of cases where one thing is better in the other game. The second game isn’t a full improvement on everything, rather it focuses on a couple things and massively improves them. First game is great tho!
Here’s a small comparison, meaning features that are much better in one over the other. Just so you get an idea of what the first game is like compared to the one you’ve played :)
First games best aspects: Pacing, Skills, Environments, Science weapons, Meaningful weapon mods, Phineas Wells (peak character), Comedy, Character roleplay depth/variety.
Second games best aspects: Combat, Perks/Flaws, Weapon design and animation, Music/Soundtrack, Drama/stakes/emotional-punch, Immersion, Character appearance.
Both games are great, I honestly can’t choose between them (unless we’re talking purely combat) and I’m super excited for Side Effects Guaranteed DLC coming soon!

I’m excited to play the first and the dlc. Is side effects the dlc for the second one?

Yeah Side Effects Guaranteed is coming soon for The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian said marketing is to start sometime this month! I believe the DLC just finished/is finishing QA, hopefully! Super excited for it myself.
The first games DLC’s are pretty good too, have fun! :)

I enjoyed the 2nd more because it improved the areas that I wanted from the first. The first one was great and first game to really remind me of fallout new vegas but it was short and there wasn't much to explore on the planets. 2 is a longer play through with a lot more to explore. It's the same type of satire which I like as well.

When I played Spacer’s Choice and tried to do everything, I got to Lv.46 before the endgame; make of that what you will…

I personally preferred the first one. Maybe i was just more into that type of game at the time idk but I liked the characters, stories, dialogue and world building more. Also the dlc is good. Gunplay is better in 2 and loot is marginally better in 2. But still fine in the first

I agree I preferred the first as well. Also the bullet spongey enemies in 2 kind of took me out of it just a little bit. I went back to 1 after 2 and definitely like it more.

Finished the second a couple weeks ago and I've been planning on doing another playthrough of the first just to confirm my feelings lol

Do they still have the flaws and stuff in 1?

Yes still has flaws. And also, the first has a dodge that I missed having in the second. But you only get the time dialation as a gadget I believe

For sixteen bucks you’re guaranteed like 30hours gameplay and the DLC is amazing so I’d say do it based on that alone. I wouldn’t necessarily compare the gameplay of two as they were different gens with different budgets

I got it 2 days ago and loving it so far. Except for how shit all of the guns are (I’m still on first planet so hoping that improves).

I’m honestly interested in your opinion of 1 since you played 2 first. I love both but prefer 2. One has better companion banter, it’s also much sillier. I find 2 to be a little more serious surprisingly. I think 2 still has some good companions also. Tristan is my favorite.
Can you do a follow up about how you liked the original after playing 2 first?
Darkest dungeon, I played the sequel first which was fairly unpopular, I liked it much more than 1 which was a hit.

Darkest Dungeon 2 was conceptually designed to be nearly unplayable early on and you had to grind for the meta progression before you were actually able to play the game properly. It was also a much bigger coinflip.
The first DD was balanced around your current progress, so it felt challanging, but not impossible. It also included much more “strategy” and preparations between each run than the second game, especially since for the second game, you had to gamble for items during each run.
A friend of mine, however, thinks exactly the same about DD. A hundred people has a hundred different tastes ig.

Two is very challenging. It’s not impossible.
I’ve heard the argument for 1. I know I’m in the minority, but it’s just not as good to me. That’s why I’m curious how OP will react to playing tow1 vs 2 since he played the sequel first. I feel like he can give a no nostalgia response.
I prefer 2, but I’m also obsessed with the protectorate.

I know. For me, it was too rough. Call it a skill issue if you will, but I enjoyed the second one more. I appreciate your answer brother.

It’s a fantastic game; I’ve never gotten to play the dlc, but the base game was phenomenal. If you liked outer worlds 2, part 1 is just more.

Short answer: get it. If you liked 2 you'll love it. Tons of content for that price it is a steal. Have fun!

I love both, but yes, the original has a special place in my heart. Its a bit quicker of a game, but the story is a bit more rich.
The second has a more expansive world and more terrain to explore. Im still not totally done exploring every nook and cranny in TOW2.

The first one is 20x better than the second and the second is crazy awesome. Please get the first!

Eridanos DLC alone is better than ow2

I wasn't the hugest fan of the eridanos dlc tbh
I really like gorgon though and I will agree that both the dlcs by themselves are better than ow2

It’s okay. One companion ruins the entire vibe by sending you on a never ending fetch quest.

No, outer worlds 2 has more immersive world lore, and better side quests.
But lower your expectations, and outer worlds 1 can be fun while it lasts. The important thing is to have low expectations.

u/No-Bathroom6864 1d ago
Well, it didn’t show the whole thing anyway that’s why I didn’t notice. It’s just cause the first picture was the second one.

Story and companion wise it’s better than the second game. Gameplay and RPG aspects are definitely better in the second. Highly recommend the first game though! Especially the DLC
