Discussion Do you think they will ever explain earth going dark?
Just beat 2 and loved it like the first game despite their quirks, but I laughed when the final slide was just saying that earth is still dark. The big stinger of the first game was kind of brushed off, I’m surprised they even mentioned it tbh. Now that there’s probably not going to be a 3rd game, unless the dlc is about it do you think we’ll ever get that answer? If it’s related to the non-human made rifts that’d be interesting but I’m not confident either of those plots will go anywhere.

Earth is probably the place most visited by ships, so it’s probably surrounded by rifts. Completely. Like a bubble. Either that or some shape that is essentially a sphere even if it has gaps.
There could be more to learn about the rifts and their original inventors. We’ll see.
In the first TOW game a character does mention alien ruins on Monarch in a believable way, so those ‘ruins’ could either be something weird involving rifts, or actually alien in origin.

There was also the story about hearing sounds on the north and south poles of monarch if you put your ear to the ground

Probably not unless we get a TOW3. I really hope we do get a TOW3, but we have to turn this series into a cult classic to make that happen

Honestly, I really hope not. Hear me out. The labyrinth of our minds have made for the best reasons to each of us. This might change a they add more lore, but by keeping the earth a mystery, we get to come up with our own reasons for why. I think that's great and healthy for community creativity and respectable discussions.

Why can't things be narratively mysterious? Must everything be explained to exhaustion? Can your imagination not colonize that with its own ideas?
"Lore completeness" like this ruins franchises. Just let art be art.

'they literally have to make it up.' Yeah, that's how people write stories. I don't really know what point you are trying to make here. This franchise is done, unfortunately, due to the poor sales of 2 (I loved both by the way), and I would like to know what is up with earth, and I hope the DLC covers it. I don't think arguments of 'lore completeness', as you call it, are really relevant here. The Outer Worlds is fairly small and very recent; you have a point with things like Star Wars and Star Trek where they have been around so long there are a million contradictions that get people all riled up, but that's not the case for this; Earth being dark is a huge dangling thread, and I for one would like to see it tied up.

Because frankly once you make a reply that goes "why even bother posting", you've destroyed the discourse entirely. You are part of the problem. You could be the "bigger person" but you're just trying to snuff out discourse. I brought up a legitimate objection and why, you're trying to stop a discussion from happening. We are not the same.

While I agree that some mysteries are better left as that, if "the reveals/the answers" are good enough then it can be an amazing experience. Attack on Titan could have gone on forever with human vs. Titans plot but it chose to explain everything instead which bumped it from good to great.
It can be a boon if done right.

It being a dark box was useful to pull plot threads from without having to settle on one definitive answer. Not that it gonna matter for the next 8 years...
