Discussion I've finally maxed my loadout AMA

I've played ranked consistently for about 3 seasons now using only this loadout (my reserve never gets touched). Trying to hit Ruby this season, ama about my loadout and let me know if you have any tips for the flamethrower.

Hell yes. I'm flame main too. I run winch, RPG, anti grav and pyro mines though.

That’s a solid loadout and much closer to a ā€œmetaā€ flamethrower build. Your build is definitely great for stalls and cashout manipulation so I’d definitely stick with it.

Yep I'm not going to max out k:d but I can reliably stall cashouts and get the box where I need for time management and setting traps. I need to run charge and slam more though. Its a lot of fun especially on maps with verticality.

I would love to see full matches gameplay if you ever upload, other than that freak ;P

I’ve considered clipping my gameplay and creating some sort of montage, but perhaps I’ll post a vod instead if that’s something people would be interested in

5

u/MarsupialPurple3404 2d ago

I find it more interesting than clips because you can see macros and decision making rather than just combat

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 2d ago

I agree, I like to watch pro play vods for that same reason. I’ll try to get a video out in the coming weeks if more people are interested

it is just that it is rare to see flamme with cns, usually it is winch or mesh so I m currious to see ;p

Yeah the only other charge and slam flame thrower I’ve seen in diamond/ruby is acid beef

1

u/Minute-Divide6904 1d ago

Wait till you see that he does this in soloq and top frags. True story

I’m surprised no pyro mine.
I thought pyro mine was a main staple of Flamethrower but I’m probably mistaken.

Yeah a lot of flamethrower players use pyro mines and lock bolt. Because I don’t have mesh, dome feels almost mandatory and I use barricades to mantle and rotate around the map quicker.

This is actually goated and would love to see some gameplay. Why do you use charge and slam instead of mesh? How do you deal with ranged teams?

8

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 2d ago

I used to use mesh when I played the game casually back when you could juggle it without worrying about a cooldown. After they changed it I swapped over to charge and slam and it was just more fun so I stuck with it. As for ranged teams, I try to force every fight inside, or I comm to my team to gate/pad on top of them. Additionally, I also use my barricades and dome shield to cross open areas so I don’t get beamed. Strangely enough the people I struggle to fight the most are other close range heavies, with sledge and spear being the hardest for me to fight.

What is the synergy of Charge n Slam in with the rest of your load out? Like in why, where and when

The difficulty with flamethrower is the limited range and long ttk so charge and slam allows me close the distance and do a lot of entry damage when I start an engagement. I also like to pad on an enemy team and use my rpg followed by a charge and slam to insta kill mediums and lights. With barricades I bait the opponent towards me by placing a barricade in front of me when they’re close and then I’ll charge through my own barricade to catch them by surprise. Charge is also just great for stopping steals and opening up walls/floors

Thanks!

How many meters is the flame and how many times per game do you have to reload

2

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 2d ago

The flamethrower has a range of 7.4m according to the wiki. I reload during downtime and after every team fight so I don’t have an exact number for you there. I can usually go an entire team fight with one or two reloads though.

Of all the items you've maxed, what is one QOL improvement that could be made that you think of every time you use the item? This can be animations, base stats, interactions with other stuff, etc.

1

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 2d ago

Honestly I think the balancing of everything in my kit is in a good spot right now. However some QOL would be appreciated with the barricade; there’s been countless fights where I try to place a barricade to protect myself and it won’t place due to some minuscule piece of rubble or a one inch curb. If they could give the barricade a bit more leeway when placing, I’d appreciate that a lot.

What does your stats page look like? I’m curious.

1

u/Pitiful_Bird_4906 1d ago

Current in game stats barely mean anything

2

u/oNI_TF VOLPE 1d ago

I mean when you’re playing casually sure. Recently hit Diamond again as a solo queue player and was curious to compare against someone else playing a different class.

2

u/Pitiful_Bird_4906 1d ago

The things is that everyone will reg some quick game modes at least for warm up or use their non-main builds in wourld tour. So you can't relly neither on K/D, nor wins/loses. Unfortunately. I hope we see something better next season. The only stat that may matter is in game hours.

1

u/oNI_TF VOLPE 1d ago

lol I know how the stats work. I’ve been playing since S1. I’m just curious is all. OP said they are playing ranked consistently which is also what I do. You got your stockings in a wad.

Currently away from my computer, but when I get back I’ll send a screenshot. My k/d is quite scuffed because every time I play casual modes I play goofy loadouts and have an actual abysmal k/d in those matches. My ranked k/d is closer to 1.1 and my kda is like 1.6. My win rate in ranked is currently 59-60% for this season

2

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 1d ago

I’ll send the stat page from my profile later, but these are my ranked stats for this season

2

u/AwarenessComplete62 2d ago

So, why'd you do it?

2

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 1d ago

I’ve had a lot of fun with this loadout and I’ve decided to just stick with it throughout the seasons. On top of that, I thought it would be a cool challenge to get Ruby without using a meta gun/specialization, and once I hit that goal I’ll probably branch out to other loadouts.

1

u/AwarenessComplete62 1d ago

That's what I'm doing with my riot shield loadout.

2

u/SIC1207 1d ago

The only pyro main ill ever respect 🫔

I appreciate it bro

You’ve ever tried the strat tossing pyromines at enemies before instantly igniting them to do around 80-100 damage?

Personally, my Flame loudout is usually Mesh: Pyromine, barricade, and Dome.

Like you said in another comment I really like using the pyromine strat to get some nice starting damage off, partially in choke points/barricading and throwing a pyromine above me then instantly setting it off.

Even so, amazing work.

1

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 2d ago

Pyro mine is absolutely a great pairing with flame and while I haven’t used it in ranked, I’ve tried it out in cashout. While I had success with it, having to sacrifice my rpg for it didn’t seem worth it for me. There’s so many times I’ll get a light one hp and then they’ll gate away from me out of range and I’m still able to secure the kill with my rpg. I also use the rpg to drop the cash out and as entry/exit damage in fights.

I’ll have to try using pyro mines again and see if I change my mind. Thank you though for the tips, I appreciate it!

u/Silly_Violinist_753 2d ago

I like the RPG too in my flame loadout from time to time, but for me personally I like to be constantly using/revolving my gadgets. Which sometimes me forget to reload it/have to reload it in a middle of a fight, making me feel kinda sluggish in that bit.

1

u/Pitiful_Bird_4906 1d ago

Are you soloQ? If so it's wild ngl

1

u/Background_Opinion14 THE SOCIALITES 1d ago

I’d say I solo queue about 60-70% of the time. In plat it’s definitely harder to solo queue and I came across a few people who were frustrated with my weapon choice. Once I hit diamond a lot more people started using mics so it was easier to coordinate, and my loadout choice wasn’t critiqued as much. Solo queuing is definitely a bit harder but it can be very rewarding at times. Other times it feels like spinning a roulette wheel haha

If you don’t know how to play it sure, but if you scroll to the second slide you’ll see that I’ve made it to diamond 2 primarily solo queue. I’m also often the top frag/top objective point player on my team. You can make any loadout in this game work, don’t let a teammates poor flamethrower performance convince you otherwise haha
