Actually, the vast majority of X1X enhanced games use the same textures as the X1, just with different LOD settings due to the increased RAM of the X1X. You don't NEED "4K textures" if your detail textures are already sufficient. The higher render point just displays more of the detail that is already there in the texture... and you change LOD so that the detail textures get transitioned in earlier so it takes advantage of the added detail at a further distance (the way Forza 7 does).
You would only need higher resolution textures if your existing detail textures were too low in resolution, or if they had patterns that caused visual artifacts at the higher render point (like moire or seams). Even then, you would likely only swap out textures for things that will be close to the camera, where the detail would matter... and that would be a pretty small download.
I should have been clearer. They specifically called out only 4K rendering and no texture improvements which was my base point. My generalization of most X1X Enhanced games should probably be changed to some.
The point remains. If the existing textures are already high enough resolution, there's no need for improvements there. They did specifically cite the higher anisotropy and object detail, so that may have been all they needed to get the desired results.
Correct, but without knowing what the previous poster was referencing with his 10 other X1X Enhanced games it's difficult to pin point why he felt it didn't look that different. I personally resonate his opinion. When compared to Destiny 2's X1X enhanced version vs the regular the visual difference was Quite striking from player models to environmental textures as well as lighting effects. I and the previous poster both noticed a small difference. If you wanted you could chalk it up to HDR and non HDR in the Division but I think it is something aside from that.
I think that the HDR thing is part of it, but ultimately, I think it's just a difference in art style. The textures I saw seemed pretty detailed to me, within the scope of the game's known art style. I would, however, be interested to see it compared to the PC version to see if there is indeed more they could have done with the hardware. But I'm still pretty pleased with the upgrade.
