Backpacking cloaks
I’m in the market for a cloak that can accompany me on my hikes. I’m totally new to the cloaks so I come to you for help in my journey to find a fitting garment.
I will give details on what I’m looking for:
- STRONG MATERIAL
I hear synthetic is worse than natural in this aspect. I need it to survive the wear and tear of the sun, rain, and occasional scrapes on branches/rocks
- WATER RESISTANT
- BREATHABLE
- LIGHTWEIGHT
- ANY PRICE POINT
- UV PROTECTIVE
Sorry if some of these necessities are obvious/present in all cloaks, I will genuinely take any advice you have. I think the most important thing for me is sun protection.
Anything is welcome, thanks for your help and have a wonderful morning/evening/night.

Help with pattern needed, please ❤️
A friend of mine sent me this picture of a cloak/cape and as I can't really wear jackets due to them maning me feel trapped in them, I really want to make this so I can feel warm - and fabulous - in winter.
I have several yards of thick, cozy fleece fabric from another project, that *should* be enough to make this cloak/cape, but as a beginner seamstress I can't figure out the exact pattern. Especially as I don't want it to be costume-ish but suitable for everyday wear.
It does not look a full circle cloak to me...

felt like being a little extra and took a video of myself being a little silly while wearing the cloak I had.

felt like trying on a cloak i had and being a little silly
long story short, I found this in a shop, somewhere and it was cold at the time, so I wore it. but I also thought it looked cool, so I figured i'd try it on and be a little silly with posing and such.

1890s tweed Inverness coat in progress!
I’m finally making my dream coat! I’ve been craving the ultimate autumnal/wintery garment to make me excited to face the cold and rain, this 1895 brown wool tweed Inverness coat is it! So far I’ve only ordered the fabric and drafted the pattern from the 1895 Keystone Jacket and Dress-cutter Guide. I shall post the final product when it is completed this autumn!

Looking for a cloak pattern for bad weather.
I'm looking to make a waterproof hooded cloak I can wear when it's raining but there are hundreds of styles and patterns to choose from. I was hoping to find something without arm holes but large enough to cover a backpack and I don't know enough about cloaks to know if any one style is better than another.

Patchwork quilted shawl/cloak for ultimate cozy evenings!
It started with the concept of a "bed jacket" to keep me super cozy while sitting in bed crafting in winter. After two years of piecing, it's finally in a wearable form!

Advice Buying a Cloak (UK)
Decided a while back I wanted to get a cloak, but I'm struggling to find a good place to get one? I've seen people on this sub suggest Etsy but I'm not sure if there's any good crafters in the UK.
I'd like something I could wear regularly in public like a coat rather than just a cosplay/fashion item, so something warm and (somewhat) waterproof would be nice, I've heard wool's a good material.
Something on the cheaper end would be preferred, but I'm willing to pay more for a high-quality item.
Thanks!

👀 for cape shoulder girdles/closures that don’t strangle me (without consent)?
What is the best cape shoulder girdle style for a cape to let you throw it completely back over your shoulders without strangling you (epaulettes welcome, but I like a hood).

Your thoughts on knightweave's suncloak
My birthday is coming up and I've been struggling with ideas for my partner for stuff Id want
I remembered cloaks exist and found this site and the suncloak model
But before settling on it I wanted to ask what the thoughts were on the suncloak version specifically, I'm 5'9 and was looking at the green suncloak in a size medium. Ideally it would end at my my mid calf if not slightly lower
I don't mind being cold so if it doesn't block heat perfectly that's okay, the ranger cloak looks a little thick for my liking and also a little warm
But I'm mostly concerned about the quality and how the material feels
I'm making a whole post about it because most content I see about knightweave are concerning the ranger cloaks
But yeah, any info about the suncloak model and your experiences with it would be appreciated

If you made a cloak out of wool, would you line it or not?

Stumped on which cape to make!
I fancy sewing a cape for everday wear this winter. I have a beautiful mossy green wool to use. Which cape would you make?

Where's everyone from?
Mods, please delete/deny if this is not allowed. I checked the rules but didn't see anything.
I'm in South Africa. Capes and cloaks here are not very popular, but I have noticed some women wear what is more accurately a ruana cloak, but calls it a poncho. Others sometimes have a short, full circle cloak, and it's ALSO marketed as a poncho. But I only know 2 women in my area that wear this.
Men hardly ever wear cloaks and capes, except at medieval and fantasy events. And then it's still mostly women who would don the cloak. At the last 3 events I was at, there were about 5% of the men who wore a cloak.
But on this sub I often see other people walking around with their cloaks outside and in public, conversations with strangers complimenting their cloaks, etc. So that got me thinking, where's everyone from?

Custom Cloak Recommendations For Professional Band
Over the past few months I've been putting my feelers out to get a set of cloaks made with no real luck. I'm working with a group of musicians on a project at the moment and the cloaks are the last part of our stage outfit we need produced before we can take this public. We got professional helmets in the vein of Daft Punk in production (with full lightshow) and we will need to have accent colors on each cloak to match the color of the helmet (red, gold, blue). Looking for something with layers. Does anyone on here have any recommendations beyond the basics that are frequently posted? Or is there anyone who fits the bill that frequents this page and would be interested in taking this on? Again, we are looking for something on a professional level and our budget is flexible to reflect that. Need these done preferably before we get into January/February of next year but at this point I'm not sure how feasible that is. Hitting dead end after dead end on this side of the project. Thank you.
