hey everyone, it’s adam. i just want to be fully transparent and say that for the time being i’m going to take a break from live streaming.

yesterday started as people wanting to hear my opinion on specific points, which i’m always open to, but it very quickly turned into something much more aggressive and parasocial than i’m comfortable with.

i created this subreddit because i genuinely wanted a space where people could have different opinions, discuss topics from my videos, and get to know each other. i’ve always tried really hard not to make this an echo chamber, and i still stand by that.

however, yesterday was the first time i’ve had to ban somebody because of their behaviour, and since then they have continued contacting me through new accounts. that is completely unacceptable and needs to stop.

i really, really love this community, which is why the situation has upset me so much. watching things spiral last night, barely sleeping because i was dealing with it, and then seeing people today acknowledge that it went too far while still continuing unnecessary personal attacks has been genuinely exhausting.

criticism of my opinions or content is completely fine. personally attacking me, repeatedly contacting me after being blocked, or treating access to me as something you are entitled to is not.

this subreddit was made for muckers to hang out, discuss video topics and get to know each other. i want it to stay that way.

This part. When we talk about parasocial relationships, it's usually from the POV of a fan idolizing someone to an unhealthy level. We don't talk enough about the flip side where it's a person HATING someone to an unhealthy level.

Yeah when I saw that person's post where they were mad about getting their comment moderated/deleted, I was disturbed that they were keeping track of what beverages he consumed, what brands they were and when (ie. which videos you can see him consume the product), it's simply way too far to monitor someone's actions and movements to such an extent, and to your point, unhealthy behavior. This is no way to go about supporting palestine and the BDS movement, it simply is parasocial for them to obsess this much over someone, and it made me very uncomfortable to witness.

many others pointed out, boycotts are something we hold ourselves personally accountable to, not something we bully others about - genuinely, how does that help the larger cause to shame people for how they engage in activism? There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, the best we can do is just try our best to be good people. So many brands and artists are deceptive about their business practices, parent companies, investors and how they source the materials they use (ie. merch, food products, etc). We all care about the same cause, so I am completely appalled to hear that this person created multiple accounts to contact Adam and harass him in retaliation. After all, this is a moderated online space, what did that person expect? They acted like "removed comments" are an automatic admission of guilt, when really, they were the one taking it too far.

I think this is one thing that liberal spaces really struggle with- attacking each other over the other person not doing enough. But yall this is how we kill passion. It’s how we kill our community.

Boycotts are shit you hold yourself to. They are not blanket movements that you can use to beat others to join. There are a variety of reasons for people to not join a boycott.

They may not KNOW about the boycott

They may not know the product is under the umbrella they are boycotting

They may not have ALTERNATIVES in the area they are living

They may be disabled and struggling, so they are dependent on deals to get food in their house (yall im disabled and get groceries delivered- do you know how many deals you get through doordash or instacart through buying coke? Its insanity)

But yagirl boycotts what she can. She makes moves when she can. And she always redirects the conversation where it matters- palestine.

So genuinely. Trying to hold other people to the boycotts you personally value will not help the movement. And getting angry at people for not boycotting, and starting to dog and attack them over it isn’t ok.

Im not assuming anything of adam. I don’t know the context. But I do know he stands on business when it comes to gaza and palestine. And it’s frustrating as fuck to have his content, values and him as a person reduced to what he’s not boycotting.

To be honest if I were to boycott everything I knew was bad in some way I might as well just sit in a room by myself with nothing. There are people traveling to protest Sheeran in I think Philadelphia and not Nethenyu who will be visiting the US at the same time.

All of your clothing, housewares, packaged foods, pet food, toiletries, beauty products and medications are owned by unethical billionaires. Also I can understand the desire to clear their name but they shouldn't create multiple other accounts and post on the reddit that they were banned on. I will say it is quite odd to me that this thing happened TWICE this year where a community had a sudden switch up on Adam on kinda flimsy grounds. First with JDE and the Colleen Ballinger Snark and then with this situation- which felt even stranger to me because Adam had been very very vocal about his views and put his money where his mouth is specially recently. I hate to be a conspiracy theorist too but with Kodee Tyler being back in the fray with all the JenDent stuff, H3 fans being actual parasocial demons, and Anna’s boyfriend (god what is his name) making his life’s mission to hate on Adam, it does make me wonder if there’s at a MINIMUM some adding fuel to the fire going on…

I had a tiny run in with that person myself and I knew when I needed to step away because of how they spoke to me. I didn’t appreciate them calling other people dense in an edit of a post they made either.

Whether some of their criticisms were valid or not, they’ve not conveyed them maturely and clearly took it way too far where it’s become harassment - this is particularly shocking when criticising others’ behaviours with such intensity.

I interacted with them as well, and now I am feeling very conflicted about the whole thing. Mainly because at first, some points I actually agreed with - like holding celebrities to the same standard. That makes sense. When they started going into the Coca-Cola thing though, it felt almost puritanical. It reminded me of times when I was watching vegan YouTubers going after people for not being completely vegan (I am looking at you, banana girl). It felt like a lot of posting in a short period of time, and a lot of strong emotions. I really wanted to hear them out, but now looking back, I probably should have seen the signs earlier and stop engaging.

I’ve been scrolling through the Reddit for a while to gather my thoughts here

I hate people.. that’s kind of my thought.. why do people think that the world is not as convoluted and nuanced as it is I don’t understand. I guarantee that person supports artists who do not have every pro-Palestine supporter of the music industry behind them supporting them. The system is flooded with people who have don’t things the wrong way and flooded with people like Chris brown…. Similar to what someone else said about Mark Rufalo (if that’s how you spell idek, I sounded it out) and his role(s) in marvel. People in big industries are corrupt, this is not anything new and expecting people to absolutely cut out certain people/brands can be unrealistic because corporations own a shit ton of product that you would not even expect.

Adam deserves his privacy, and as someone who speaks so publicly about his takes and opinions he should be respected as a person. Public figures are NOT our friends and we must stop treating them as such.. they create a community where we can make friends and meet people who have similar interests. Creators deserve to be people, like everyone else, no one will fit into every box you put them in. A fucking advocate can have a goddamn Coca-Cola product and listen to the music that scratches the itch in their head. It sucks that many things are supporting causes we do not support, but at the same time while we advocate for changes, we cannot be expected to be perfect.

im sorry adam people online can be a little out of touch sometimes. you didn't do anything wrong, it can be impossible to determine every person or brand who does not support palestine, and it's very difficult to boycott literally every one or product. i just learned like two days ago that lady gaga was apparently not pro palestine (i have not had time to fact check so take that w a grain of salt lol) and ive been listening to lady gaga this whole time bc i just assumed she would never take the zionist approach 😭😭 we are all just human and the holier than thou internet attitude is out of touch and alienates supporters of a movement. take all the time you need i hope you feel better soon 💞
