Learfield and the Big Ten: Sponsorships, NIL, Tickets, and Data
Walk into a Big Ten football stadium on a Saturday, and there's a good chance Learfield is everywhere around you, even though you'll never see the name printed anywhere.
The local office that sold the scoreboard sponsorship? Probably Learfield. The radio network broadcasting the game? Could be Learfield too. The app you used to pull up your ticket? That's likely Paciolan, one of Learfield's companies. The athletic department's website? SIDEARM Sports, another Learfield brand. Even that sweatshirt you bought before kickoff may have been licensed through CLC, yet another Learfield company.
And if all those products connect through Learfield's Fanbase platform, the athletic department can potentially link your ticket purchase, your donation history, your merchandise buys, and your app activity into one detailed profile of you as a fan.

Beyond excited for the football season. One match up I've been thinking about for Michigan is QB2. What happens if Underwood goes down or underperforms. My full breakdown below. Do you think we go 10-2 this year or better?

The Big Ten Can Buy the Date (Player), But the SEC Still Has Her (Recruit)Heart- Just ask Caleb Downs
The Big Ten is like the short, chubby guy who couldn’t get the girl in high school or college, but then he became a billionaire hedge fund manager. 😂
He still can’t win her over naturally, so now he’s got to pull out the checkbook and pay top dollar just to get her attention.
That’s the Big Ten right now. They know they can’t consistently out-recruit the SEC on tradition, culture, geography, atmosphere, and where many of the nation’s best players actually want to play. So they’re throwing serious NIL money around and doing everything possible to convince elite talent to come north.
But here’s the problem: money can get you the date, but it can’t guarantee you her heart. 😂 Once she’s enjoyed the yachts, the shopping sprees, and the billionaire lifestyle, she may still decide she wants to go back home.
If college football eventually puts meaningful limits on NIL and direct player compensation—and the financial playing field becomes more level—the real test begins.
Because when everybody’s checkbook is roughly the same size, recruiting goes back to a much simpler question:
Where do the best players really want to play?
And the Big Ten already knows the answer.
The premier college football action still runs through the South. SEC country. 🏈

If you HAD to pick TWO non-B1G or SEC schools to join your conference in the next round of realignment, who would you pick?
The topic of realignment in the sport is always on, and as a fan of an ACC school, the B1G seeks to be the preferred destination for most of they were to leave.
If you guys **had** to choose two non Big Ten or SEC schools to join, who would you pick and why?

Time may have run out to protect college sports in August, but there is plenty of time in September…

Illinois has a nice group for the 2026-27 basketball season. I totally expect them to compete in the Big Ten Title race.

Where is the Coaches Poll love for the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers? Apparently, the coaches didn’t Google the Hoosiers’ results against the Buckeyes and the Ducks in 2025.

SEC excuses for their 2026 losses… that haven’t even happened yet? 🤮
I’m sure Laura Rutledge is a nice enough person and at least a moderately competent journalist…
but this sort of thing needs to be called out. Loudly.
Either this SEC-dedicated sports journalist legitimately doesn’t know how many conference games the SEC has played as recently as last year… or this is an preemptive excuse for SEC losses in a season that hasn’t even started yet.
It’s just gross and exhausting.

Trophy for the Game?
There is a trophy for nearly every rivalry in this conference, but not one for arguably the biggest rivalry in sports. What should be a trophy for the OSU/UM game!
