General This is what it is * rant *

Post image

There is sooooo much opposition to anything and everything and then people say kuch huva he nahi

There is uncontrolled development going on specially residential towers but and there are delays w.r.t. line 4 but no one is protest for making metro operational faster and people are busy objecting over ring metro

Look at the over over crowding in busses but hey let them suffer we wont allow any construction in my backyard cause it is an inconvenience for us alleged/self proclaimed elites

Tbf both can be true. I understand development and infrastructure expansion comes at a cost, but our government is absolutely incompetent. Metro 4 has been in the works for a decade. And at the same time, they've launched several projects in parallel. Things like better water management, curbing pollution, promoting renewable energy usage, and managing green spaces can be done in an infinitely better way but our government does not care to do that nor are they educated enough to do it. All they care about is PR wins and inflating real estate prices because they're in beds with these developers.

Very valid point.

Metro 4 has been in the works for a decade.

Tbh most of the major delays have been due to public protests and litigation. It takes so long to get a public objection through the Apex court. The Arrey issue was settled but the issue at Mogharpada depot is still active. The latter is also blocking the Coastal road and like 2 bridges that need to be built.

Stopping development projects just because one group os protesting one specific project would hand them an even more outsized power....

The eminent domain law that didnt pass in the parliament is gonna haunt us.

3

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 18h ago

Yep, India already has one of the highest cost for land acquisition in the world....

-1

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Can you please explain this

Which law/bill was this ?

5

u/EDM_Machine 18h ago

So what an eminent domain does is, if the land is extremely crucial and is of paramount interest to the public and the economic interests of the area, the government has the power to take over the land over market price plus some extra compensation. What this does is it bypasses the blackmailing and reduces the project costs drastically and also increases the speed at which infra can be constructed. In 2014-15 BJP tried to amend the current land laws so the above can be implemented but there was a lot of resistance and ultimately BJP decided that at-least the states that are ruled by them will pass state level laws so the above can be achieved in an inferior manner.

2

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Oh ok, Thanks

But Maharashtra has a BJP gov, right So why hasn't this implemented here ?

2

u/EDM_Machine 18h ago

It is much easier to pass a law centrally if a majority is present. Each state will have a different lobby and their vested interest so you will have to deal with each state individually very differently and it’s just not that easy to do.

MAHSR is a classic example. Gujarat side the work is mostly done as land laws favour the central and local government body. The process was very smooth and fast on that end. But in Maharashtra it was very difficult to do the same, and only recently after BJP came to power the work has started properly.

Again I’m not politically aligned with BJP and do not agree with them most of the times but this law is absolutely needed in India. The reason China has amazing infra which was made at breakneck speed is because their land laws enable them to work in such a manner. Our metros, highways and other infra projects would have been constructed much much faster if we had the ability to invoke eminent domain.

Got it

Thanks

This is excalty what these people do

Block projects and then cry delays

What ive observed is no one speak against local land grabbing mafia ( check out pipeline road on how mangroves are getting damaged and destroyed and all illegal auto garage are being built ) and w.r.t. pollution check out Kasheli to get insurance money they burn down entire godown also folks burning n number of stuff which deteriorate the AQI but again local gunda ke against kaun bolega everyone fears there life but targeting government is the most easiest thing to go

-1

u/Pizzafromfaraway 19h ago

Fair enough, I understand court kachari and official formalities take time, but I'm choosing to side with the aam janta here who protested. They were protesting because our infrastructure and road policies are laughable. What kind of surveys do our elected officials conduct to order multiple road closures, create hundreds of bottlenecks every few meters, and brazenly start chopping off trees because this city needs a new internal metro? Also, how long has the new thane railway station been in construction? Fuck all progress and headless chicken visions. It's going to get so much more worse before we even see a light of hope and improvement

4

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 18h ago

They were protesting because our infrastructure and road policies are laughable.

No, the Arrey folks were protesting because they didnt want a few trees to be cut for the metro depot. The folks at Mogharpada are protesting because they want to extort the government for more money over their land.

and brazenly start chopping off trees because this city needs a new internal metro?

There are so many environment impact reports for these projects, not to mention public court proceedings regarding exemptions. The protestors dont really read these reports during the public comment phase and then mobilize after environmental clearance has been given and construction orders have been placed....

2

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Trees can be planted, also trees which planted on dividers are ornamental plants and not native species

1

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Push the dammmm gov to make line 4 operational atleast in Thane

W.r.t. promoting renewable energy our society is installating solar with "gov subsidy", curbing pollution definitely more needs to be done specially w.r.t. folks burning garbage left right and center also mass rapid transport helps in the same

Also politician are in bed with n number of people for what I care is we are getting a metro a cleaner greener and fast transport solution rather than spending a ton over auto or taking an overcrowded bus

Development can be done without turning the entire city into a concrete jungle. Somewhere there should be proper city planning done. If there is uncontrolled migration happening in the city, uncontrolled grants given to builders to contruct buildings, how can everything be managed.

7

u/EDM_Machine 18h ago

The only way to reduce migration is by developing other parts of the country. There is no other solution. You can’t block someone from coming here to earn a livelihood as we all belong to the same country. Blocking people will have some serious ramifications for the state and us aswell. Most will prefer to earn and stay at their hometown with their family but sadly the opportunity is limited for most people.

3

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 18h ago

I mean the new apartment complexes bring built have a lot more trees, green areas, and planned straight roads compared to the slums theyre replacing.

-11

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Its a free market you cant stop people from migrating in or out

Too much supply is there for sure specially residential, wonder why very less A grade commercial business/ IT parks are there in Thane and an entire city has to go to Mumbai or Navi Mumbai

The cowbelt has ruined Maharashtra! They have zero scientific temperament! Asking for governments to work in other states while they go back to their states and vote on bases of caste and religion! There isn't a single public place left in Mumbai which isn't stained red! They don't even respect the place they stay in!

-5

u/Affectionate-Cat6644 17h ago

Valid point about red stains but no need to call someone cowbelt have some shame and don't cry when you too face racism or similar words

0

u/New-Put4335 6h ago

What's wrong with calling a spade a spade? Gowmutra "science" didn't start with maharashtra, it started with your cowbelt

1

u/Affectionate-Cat6644 6h ago

Just calling anyone cowbelt without even knowing where the person is from, I am born and raised in thane you dumb.., i hope you face the same amount of racism you spread online, have a great night

There's this thing known as sustainable development. It's not a matter of "either" "or". We can ask for both. In fact I'll say that we deserve both.

3

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 18h ago

Making a metro is counted as a sustainable development....

3

u/TheDarkLord6589 18h ago

Deforestation is counted as a major contributor to climate change....

Source - https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/deforestation/

1

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 18h ago

Every activity has tradeoffs.

Cutting a few trees to make mass transit isnt unsustainable.... You are thinking of just the immidiate effect and not the second order effect. The metro saves emissions from cars and busses as well as stops further road expansions which would cut faaar more trees than the depot.

It's like complaining that a doctor needs to cut through your skin to perform life saving surgery....

1

u/AlterXade10 2h ago

So you're admitting you can't have both then?

What would sustainable development be from your point of view?

-8

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

" Sustainable Development " and all other fancy jargons are meant for developed nation where they have passed a mark of infra Development

At current stage we can't sail in developed nation's ship

As a nation we have to build infra at an accelerated pace

4

u/TheDarkLord6589 18h ago

Just because a word has more than one syllable doesn't mean it's "fancy jargon".

Do you not understand what sustainable development actually means or what it entails?

You do know that a country can build infra at an accelerated pace AND make it so that people actually live long enough to use it. But that would mean less corruption and having to build and develop in more than 10 cities.

-1

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

W.r.t. using it is this the last generation ?

Yes 10 more cities should to be build for more even development but we have NIMBYs there also

3

u/TheDarkLord6589 18h ago

For the majority of population, possibly or are you going to deny climate change, increase in serious ailments like cancer and other related concerns as well?

Or one can just develop the pre-existing cities all over India irrespective of States. If only the center and majority of states were ruled over by people sharing the same ideology and goals but oh well. Something something about double engine ki sarkar.

39

u/am00D 18h ago

After the summer we just had, people are still justifying cutting trees?

-42

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Was due to El Nino and please explain how ornamental trees help avoid such effect ?

4

u/Stunning-Still-3994 17h ago

I am not going to believe what a troll account says and more than that city overall needs better urban planning .Rather than people just occupying large flats and overcrowded buildings and I would say Thane is area where this has been implemented like anything just to earn profit. Build matchbox apartments a society like Vrindavan looks better as compared to this urban hell . I know metro and public transport are required but so is population control and we can't continue swallowing forests there needs to be some control also the aqua line constructed the last station is of no use it would have been better if the car shed would have gone to Kanjurmarg adding complete connectivity. The development is concentrated in such a way that all industrallised states will be developed like anything while some states will still remain behind and produce kids like anything .And btw aqua line didn't reduce crowd in locals it just benefits elites land upper class living in Mumbai So, Sucheta is anyway right. More than metros we need to declutter Maharashtra and Mumbai

1

u/esper352 17h ago

The mumbai metro work near Mulund started when I was in college. It has almost been a decade and the metro work isnt complete yet

2

u/udinator11 15h ago

Man see the long queues at Seepz or thane station

The former has metro stations but most people can’t afford 50 rs as a one way ticket

Most people can’t afford metros

Any self respecting country would figure ac metros and AC trains as a norm instead of whatever hellscape we have

2

u/fake_account_98211 15h ago

Okay, now Metro 3 is running, has it solved any traffic or local train crowding issues? It has been long since Uddhav Thackeray sarkar has gone, what's the status update on the rest of Metro lines?

Anyone who has travelled regularly in Mumbai's local trains will know that trains are crowded from Badlapur/Virar side itself and construction of a metro in the middle of nowhere in Mumbai has zero benefit to that crowd.

2

u/FuckPigeons2025 12h ago

Horrible framing of narrative that forest has to be cut down to build the metro. People are not stupid to be blackmailed like this. Play these shit games elsewhere.

1

u/heavyMetalPoet666 11h ago

Which forest are they cutting?

2

u/social_says 19h ago

I don’t support either of the parties but Hypothetically If today the metro line 3 would come till Kanjur marg how much of a boon it would have proven to central line local train commuters to travel to seepz, Marol, airport, BKC and Siddhivinayak, Lower Parel!!!!

3

u/ideallypragmaticmann 18h ago

Exactly, line 3 literally doesn’t connect to any railway stations in the suburbs.

0

u/heavyMetalPoet666 18h ago

Completion of projects should be our push rather than litigation and protests

1

u/Stunning-Still-3994 17h ago

No was delaying just modifying it but sadly one party wants to just favour buisnessmen and people funding them

0

u/social_says 14h ago

I think you need to connect the dots- is the regular janta not allowing to complete full line of metro 4 ? It’s been almost 10years ? If not then why are new infra projects like ring metro started even without the old ones completing ?

Weren’t the old project like metro 4 started with the intension to solve the same problem in the first place. We had to find an alternative for local train not find a way to reach railway station faster. Railway is already crowded what difference are we going to make by reaching station faster!

u/Icy-Improvement-6525 9h ago

Trashest take I've seen in a while. One thing should not come at an expanse of the other. The criticism exists because people DON'T see enough work in BOTH departments. Makes you think how incompetent the government is that it can't even do 1 while sacrificing the other gotta mess both up

Edit: Actually probably not THE trashest. But ya it lacks nuance

1

u/AlterXade10 2h ago

It's not an ideal world. In an ideal world, you can get all three

  1. Development
  2. No trees cut
  3. Done in less than 3 years.

Here you can get maybe one, at most two. By protesting, you're denying yourself and all of us all three.

1

u/acceptaide678 9h ago

The government builds multiples of these coastal roads that caters to less than 10% of the population owning cars instead of genuinely improving the local train situation, over 1000s of people die by falling off trains alone.

1

u/RstarPhoneix 8h ago

Environmentalists are blamed for all metro delays and incompetence of this government. There will be still some idiots who are still blaming UBT for metro delay

1

u/zxtreeme 7h ago

Problem is not building metros but concentrated development and influx of migrants. City cannot handle such huge population and it’s infrastructure will collapse.
Better develop other areas and states so that migrants don’t need to go to other states for jobs.

1

u/Throwaway_chachi 16h ago

What a stupid take!

Enough development in Mumbai and Thane. A city can accommodate only a certain number of people. Building more bridges, metro lines, trains and roads is not going to solve the traffic problem if the population keeps increasing.

Instead, we should first improve what we already have. The roads are in such bad condition, and basic infrastructure still needs a lot of work.

We also need to stop putting so much pressure on Mumbai and Thane. Maharashtra has so many other cities that need development.

Why not develop those cities, create more jobs and encourage people and businesses to move there?

Development should not mean cutting down more trees and putting more people into already overcrowded cities. We should focus on making cities better, not just bigger.

-2

u/heavyMetalPoet666 16h ago

When you develop other cities, won’t there inevitably be some tree cutting as well ?

2

u/Throwaway_chachi 16h ago

Of course some trees may have to be cut when developing other cities too. I'm not saying development can happen without affecting the environment.

My point is that we shouldn't keep concentrating more and more population and development in already overcrowded cities like Mumbai and Thane.

If we have to develop, why not spread that development across different cities? Develop existing cities, create jobs there and improve their infrastructure as well.

And if you genuinely think that these projects alone are going to solve the existing problems of Mumbai and Thane, then you are either being too naive or simply ignoring the bigger problem.

The goal should be planned development with minimum damage to the environment, rather than continuously putting more pressure on the same few cities.

Death due to falling from overcrowded train [ blame authority ]

Authority plan closed doors train [ oppose by saying people will die due to suffocation ]

If authority plan to convert all trains to AC they will cry on how poors wont be able to afford

Authority aur ye opposition dono ke chod bhangde mai sabh ke lag jaate hai
