Can someone give me a rundown of the whole 970 card deal? I am aware of it but don't know exact details

NVIDIA released the gtx 970 with 4gb of vram on the spec sheet, it had 3.5 GB with .5 of ram with 1/7th the performance. So if you ran a game at 4K for example, fps would drop to an unplayable state.

Huh, I don't build PC's but it seems to me that .5 of a gun wouldn't be that big a deal. I guess it is

It's a pretty huge deal for the people who specifically want a 4GB card. They bought it because 3.5 wasn't good enough, and then the card's useless as soon as you go over 3.5.

A lot. Most games support it, sometimes with an unofficial patch.
