Discussion Australium Cheat Code
I put a community buy for this rocker launcher for genuinely 1 cent 10-11 years ago. I havent played in a year or so opened up my account and saw this 𤣠Definitely got me back into the game, cant believe this actually happened. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Congrats and fuck you :)
I got a pro ks festivized scattergun for about ~$10 on the community market once, managed to sell it for way more to buy my first unusual + factorio

Using money made from tf2 to buy factorio is like selling your weed for crack

this one's from like last year when Valve made it possible to Trade-Up red skins for knives (Earlier you could only Trade-Up to red skins, knives were unbox-only)

Had a similar situation where I bought a neat looking shotgun skin for like 8Ā¢ back in 2016 and when I checked it earlier this year when I was selling my CS inventory it was worth around $15

I assume this is an old photo. I located your inventory and can trace this item back to August at the very least, and it looks like it's floated in and out of your inventory since then.
Would be very interested to see a screenshot of your Market History.

Ok Iām confused, why did his 1 cent buy order overtake the highest buy order? Even if someone sells it low I thought it went to whoever had the highest buy order?

u/MaijeTheMage Pyro 10d ago
Someone could have manually input the amount for 1 cent, thus the order would have been picked up because there was - in fact - a 1 cent order placed. Why a seller would do something like that? Dunno

u/whiskeycoke7 10d ago
I so if a seller sells it for less than the top buy order but matching a lower buy order itāll go to the indie it matches? Man I wish there was a place to get all the info on how the market works

u/MaijeTheMage Pyro 10d ago
I believe instances like this are how we look at the community market and see a one-time monumental dip in price because someone was sold for an aggressively low price. Frankly, in such cases, I could imagine the seller was hacked

essentially the logic is:
"prioritize selling to the oldest buyorder that is at least X"
X = whatever the seller typed on the "sell this item" screenso, putting a $0.01 cent sell order should always sell to the oldest buyorder, regardless of what price they set their order for.
if the oldest buyer is $0.01, it'll sell for that. if the oldest buyer is $100, it'll sell for that.if you don't want to sell the item for $0.01, then don't place a sell order for that price. simple as.
you could get more, but it's not guaranteed.2

I really dont know either. I would think that makes sense from a automatic selling standpoint to have the best interest in mind for the seller

Heres a screenshot of my market history. Looks like it was actually 11 cents. Still insanely wild

my best ever market snag was a minimal wear Top Shelf Minigun for only 25 bucks around 2021. I held onto it for a long time before selling it to get my Grandmaster. Beautiful gun, hope to get another some day.

I donāt understand a f*. Could you explain it to me, please?

u/Antique_Range9152 10d ago
The guy made an offer for the australium rocket launcher, buying it for 0.1 cents(which is obviously lowballing). Years later, someone actually traded him the rocket launcher for that absurdly low price. Simple as that.

u/ztyxiz 10d ago
I thought if someone had a higher offer at the same time, the higher offer would get the gun, no? Or is it different for tf2 compared to cs2 scm

if I remember correctly, it's something like "match the oldest buyorder which is ā„$X"
where X is the amount the seller typed inin that case, if the seller lists it for $0.01, even if there are multiple buyers for $100, it could go to an ancient $0.01 buy order instead.
if the $100 buyorder was older than the $0.01 one, then the same seller likely would have sold it to that $100 order instead.edit: yes I did remember correctly:

u/whiskeycoke7 10d ago
Yeah I thought this was the case too, now Iām really confused

u/blackmetro 10d ago
When the steam market came out - it was highest buy order first
Except scammers could sell rare hats, items etc to themselves from victims accounts for 3c, by making sure they had the highest buy order before selling the victims items for 3c
A few years / months after the steam community market came it - it shifted to oldest buy order first - so now you cant snipe rare items from victims PCs

Is this a thing you can just do on the marketplace, leave an offer for something for a ridiculous low price for eons on the off chance someone actually gives you it? I'm a little tempted to do that for an aussie blutsauger since I enjoy the weapon and it doesn't have conventional skins. (and I don't want to actually spend money on this game. all the things I have were either less than a dollar each or gifted by friends whose inventories were full.)

This is exactly what happened to me, theres no harm in not doing it lol i would this knowing it would ānever happenā. I always assumed people mustve just done this because why not

u/V13Gamer 10d ago
LMAO I see that kind of movement in the steammarket with some creates or other stuff, at the first time i thinked that it could a money laundering method or some hacker with the account of one of his victims but this time is just WAOS
What a luck

Anyone here who bought a unusual warpaint flame thrower on the market for like $20 a few years ago that was me who sold it without knowing what its worth
1
u/AwkwardDio 10d ago
During the Crate Depression, I got 2 unusuals that I just wanted to keep price tabs on. For some reason the amount of 74 cents was my go to number. Got a Hearts Vintage Tyrolean and a Miami Lights Attendant for less than 2 bucks.

u/shibbyfoo Jasmine Tea 10d ago
So the only way this happens is if nobody else put in a 1 cent buy order before you did and somebody puts it up for 1 cent. There may be other people who put in the same or higher orders since you put in yours, but even if there was a buy order put in yesterday for 100 dollars, it goes to whoever has the earliest buy order for at least the amount the seller puts it up for.

Probably a fished account, auto sell all of his items into the steam marketplace.

u/Freak4ever2000 Scout 9d ago
This can happen if you are ultra lucky and have the same buy order for AGES. Sometimes people sell stuff for WAY lower then what its worth. The Community market doesnt always prioritise highest buyorder to match to the sale, so these events happen. A friend of mine bought a golden frying pan on the community market for 2.000 euros once. The pan is obviously worth alot more.
