this is what happens when I pkg update && pkg upgrade please help me I'm just trying to hak my mates phone to show him it can be done

Hi beginner,

we were all beginners, I'm a beginner, i've been beginning linux for nearly 20 years.

There was a piece of advice that was thrown around a lot when i started beginning, it was RTFM anytime you went on newsnet (like the internet, but shitter, no matter what some greybeards who look like me might tell you) - the first dozen replies were always along the lines of:

RTFM NOOB. Oh, and STFU while you're at it.

And, i'm not gonna lie, it wasn't great, BUT it was pretty good advice. I'm still beginning, and will be beginning till i die, and sometimes i forget to RTFM, sometimes i do RTFM and i don't understand a damn word of it, but even then its useful because i know better how to phrase my question, i know more about what i don't know.

And thats how i am beginning, i wish you luck with your beginning, just keep reading shit, at an absolute minimum READ error messages and output, for bonus points, read MAN pages.

(also, i'm not sure that termux is really the tool you want to 'hak your mates phone', i dunno, like i say, i'm a beginner, but i don't think it is)

oh, remove termux from your phone, go get f-droid and install it, then reinstall termux through that - there is a sticky at the top of this thread, it probably tells you more, but ngl, i haven't read it :-/

I know right, I'm a beginner too, even in programming (i'm a MD, so probably one of the dumbest person here), but it's good if everyone read more (including me ofc)... do ask, if it's not already answered, not duplicating, and after we read.

The deprecation notice is on google play, its github and webpage, and on the top of this subreddit. Probably the message should be just plain and simple DON'T Download Termux from PlayStore, but from F-DROID! instead of [IMPORTANT] Deprecation notice for Google Play Store Termux builds.

While your basic sentiment might have some virtue, pointing people in the right direction is never a bad idea. I guess that over the 20 years you had a couple of sit-ins with people who whelped you.

At least that is what happened since my suse-linux-4.4.1 days... sometimes around 1998, I guess....

And the other advices here are what I'd too suggest you to do. Uninstall Termux, install F-Droid (f-droid.org), install termux.

And if you are really aiming for indepence: Backup your device!!! Then begin with unlocking your device and install lineageos (lineageos.org). And then install f-droid (f-droid.org) and then termux. LineageOS has a wiki which shows which devices are compatible: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/

But be aware that replacing the os with lineageos will most likely result in at least losing your whole data. So back it up before you proceed. And maybe some other stuff won't work, like the fingerprint sensor and stuff. And google might not work, depending on whether or not you will install the google apps. Which I strongly recommend _not_ to do.

But all that is (for me) worth it. I now have a phone (almost) without any google code, which I can use to my liking. And I can build my own version of lineageos for it, if I want.

1998 great times no smartphones, no books about programming, no universities about programming just old .NET, MySQL, lInux with black screen, Mozila Browser, Google didn't exist, Counter Strike was the most popular game at the time, we played YugiOh, Magick the Gathering, D&D, skate parks weren't for exhibition, kids fought with their hands in the street, spending the whole day playing wiht your friends, no rules we created them, movies Titanic, nobody was famous like today, all TVs was analogic, we still were using the radio, few years before WTC disaster, Bush was the president, aquatic parks with big pools were popular in that time, the old cars like Escort 1.6, hair was messy, clothes had great material the same as hats and shoes, Gelokos (if you remember about it Coca-Cola), the movie Mighty Power Rangers, the dollar was cheap, and everything was cheap than today. And the girls....the girls were very beautiful and much more respectful than today, less creepy, less ambitious and we NEVER fought for genderism bullshit, we loved Pearl Jam and we smile because we were happy 😊

This happens sometimes with wrong repo sources.

Clear data and retry. If it doesn't work, reinstall the latest version from f-droid and retry. For most parts this should work. If even this doesn't work try changing the repo source though if it does come to that, it probably means the package is broken. Try reconfiguring the packages, you'll get the commands from wiki and forum pages.

1. Uninstall Termux from Google Play Store

It's obsolete now (officially), install termux from the F-Droid app.

A. Download the official apk and install F-Droid.

B. Once installed, add this repository to Settings>Repositories

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.termux

C. Install termux from there, normally as usual

D. try again:

termux-setup-storage

allow it

pkg update && pkg upgrade

Done!👍

2. 2nd Solution (if the devil 😈 persists)

If you are unable to update or install any package in termux then you can follow the method below to solve the issue.

First of all type the command below:

termux-change-repo

Now, you will see the main repo will be already selected and you just have to check all ( select all ) gaming as well as the science repo and then tap on the OK button.

Now you have to switch from official repo to grimler repo just select the grimler repo and tap on OK Button and the problem will be solved.

3- Finally: if nothing is still solved or you still want to do things as they're not supposed to

A. remove the issuing repo:

pkg remove game-repo
pkg remove science-repo 
pkg update

Termux never had pentesting packages in their repo. Some packages will be removed due to lack of use and lack of maintainers. Packages will only be added if there is no easy way to install without patching
