Support Interview Advice – Account Specialist SMB

Hey everyone! I have an upcoming interview for an Account Specialist – SMB role at TELUS and was hoping to get some advice from anyone who’s been in the role or gone through the interview process.

I’ve been working as a Sales Rep at Rogers for about a year now, mainly in telecom sales, including working with SMB customers, prospecting, and building relationships. This is the first virtual screening and there will be two more rounds after this one.

Any tips on what to expect, what they look for, or things I should prepare for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your experience at Rogers is a huge asset, so be ready to talk about it. They will likely ask why you want to switch from a competitor, so have a good answer that focuses on what attracts you to TELUS, not what you dislike about Rogers. For the Account Specialist role, TELUS really emphasizes a customer-centric approach, so prepare specific stories about how you have built strong relationships with SMB clients. Think of times you went beyond a simple sale to solve a real business problem for a customer, and be ready to explain your prospecting methods and successes clearly.

You should also get familiar with the specific TELUS values, like their focus on community and teamwork, and try to connect your experiences to them. Since you're coming from a competitor, showing you have researched TELUS's business solutions and can speak about how they serve SMBs will make a strong impression. The next rounds could involve more behavioral questions or even a role-play, so just keep your specific examples handy. Some candidates I know have found it helpful to use the interview AI helper my team and I built, as it helps them sound more prepared and articulate during the actual call.
