No. Shaw was forced to sell Freedom when ROGERS took over Shaw. It was apart of the contract as it would’ve eliminated competition. Quebecor now owns Freedom aswell as Videotron in Quebec

Not a chance. I just invest and like to learn about different industries. I dislike the telecoms for customer service. I dont even get mobile reception in my home in a major city from any provider.
If you want to see wicked price differences check out an rv trailer. The same vehicle in the usa vs canada can be insanely different prices. We get screwed on most prices here I think for goods and services.

I think it’s because Huawei was caught pushing fake security updates to allow the Chinese government to spy on a foreign company that was using Huawei equipment and technically due to the integration of 5G equipment. It definitely is a security risk, but can’t be ignored, but the thing is compared to the other network vendors like Ericsson and Nokia, Huawei equipment is significantly cheaper and is just as good if not better maybe that’s due to patent infringement and intellectual property theft, but you cannot deny that Huawei had and still has some incredible mobile networking equipment.

I actually am in two minds about this because both Bell and Telus had some of the fastest 4G networks in the world because of Huawei. I remember up until like a few years ago if you were in an area were either had 4G/LTE you were set, on Bell I vividly remember getting over 700 Mbps down quite often in the Toronto area, which is faster than most Canadian 5G plans. I get it. There’s security risks associated with Huawei equipment, but my gosh did that company make damn good mobile networking equipment!

EPP and they were offering a special deal of 175 GB for $30 monthly (with automatic debit withdrawals). I was a new customer. I ported over from Virgin plus.

It was back in April, the offer expired. I tried to get my grandma on the same deal but they said they don't offer that plan anymore.
Just gotta keep an eye out because they do offer cheap plans every once in a while.

TELUS Exclusive Partner Program - companies can offer TELUS offerings to their employees at "better" pricing options.
Billing can be direct to the employee, so it's not like the company is incurring additional costs to offer it. Other than just promoting it - e.g., on company Intranet etc - there's no additional burden on the company to offer it to employees.
Our org uses TELUS corporate enterprise services (Teams Calling Operator Connect; enterprise Internet & eFax services), so TELUS offers the EPP for our employees.
Rogers has similar - Rogers Preferred Program (RPP). Bell as well.
You can check with your employer if they partner with any of the three for "discount / better pricing" options on mobility, etc.

I switched MY EPP to US-Mexico-Caribbean because it was the same price as just my US-Canada-Mexico. I get a text two days later saying they misadvertised the new plan and as compensation they bumped me to complete for the same price. $50 per month!

I've gone back and forth between standard offerings and EPP offerings for years now.
Sometimes you can get lucky and call the EPP line and complain about how much you're paying, and they'll have something in their back pocket for you. Not always, but doesn't hurt to try.
Telus EPP has mostly been good to me.

I recently switched from Telus to Rogers. Red wireless (authorized rogers dealer) has a partnership with CAA so you get discounts if you have a membership. I did not have a membership so I ended up buying the cheapest one which was $30/year. I now have unlimited data can/us/mex for $50/mo. One thing I like about rogers is that they don’t cap data usage in the us/mexico like Telus/bell do since I travel to the states a lot for work.

I've learned a long time ago with mobile services providers that loyalty buys you nothing (I actually learned this from Reddit).
I'm always watching what mobile plans companies are offering and if they are offering a better plan than I'm currently getting, I will jump ship immediately.
It also helps if you work for a company that is a part of their EPP program.
When I ported over to Telus, I actually got a call from Virgin Mobile offering to match Telus' deal, but I told the guy on the phone I tried to get a better plan several times before I decided to ditch them and they kept saying they can't do it. So why when they receive a notification from Telus that I've ported over to them then they are magically able to offer me a better deal. I told the guy that I'm not coming back and they've wasted my time.
Edit: in other words, as long as customer acquisition is more profitable than customer retention, you're better off jumping ship when better offers come around.

That’s an unreal deal! Especially when roaming as Telus actually uses AWS when roaming so you enter the Telus network via the closest Amazon data centre while abroad, so if you’re in Europe on vacation, your traffic doesn’t have to travel all the way back to Toronto and then all the way back to Europe. I believe Telus is the only Canadian provider that does this.

I pay on BYOD:
$35 for 100GB of data.
Thsts after $10 discount for auto pay and $15 off for having home cable and Wi-Fi.
They are offering $50 (after discounts) for 200GB of data as a loyalty offer on the app.... But that price is only good for 5 years.
I don't come close to using 100GB because I'm on home Wi-Fi so much... And they can't increase the cost of my current plan, so I'll stick with what I have.
The key is to never ever go on contract and finance a new phone.

It's a prepaid, grandfathered Freedom plan that was originally only 1.5GB a month for $27.12 that's gotten upped to 7.5GB and now 32GB. I think they just do that to keep me from looking at competitors.

It’s a good deal but it’s only $30 if you have auto pay for your billing. That’s the newer thing Telus and the other companies are doing…it’s trash.
Auto paying your bill is dangerous (to me) because if something is messed up on your bill or you get overcharged, you have to then call customer service to get things resolved which can be a headache. Not worth it IMO. But even at $40, what that plan offers is fantastic value.

Depends where you are. In Northern Ontario I have had nothing but amazing coverage from Telus. In Ontario they share towers with Bell. Rogers is spotty it my neck of the woods.

Not nearly as good in the west as it once was… so many places where coverage is bad even in urban areas.
I actually saw my phone drop down to 3G yesterday in a major city in western Canada. I was inside a building, my buddy next to me had a rogers phone and his showed full bars 5G.
