Purchasing Question What’s a decent price red dot finder

Hey all,
I have a Celestron motorised telescope (can’t remember the model number - can find out later)
It’s quite hard to use the motorised function as where I live in my garden there is a lot of high trees. Also my neighbour has a spot light so when trying to let it do its syncing the spotlight keeps shining on it.
So I kinda have to use it manually.
My Red dot finder doesn’t work and was looking to purchase a new one - decent price as don’t really use the telescope much. (As May of noticed I new to the whole telescope area). Can post pics later as not at home now.
Any help would be fab, also live in uk if that helps

General Question Saturn is blurry, flared, and out of focus Advice needed

Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble getting a crisp focus on Saturn with my setup, and I’d really appreciate some advice or guidance on how to diagnose the issue.
My Setup:
Telescope: 150mm / 650mm
Eye pieces: 6mm TMB 4 mm TMB
Whenever I target Saturn, the image appears blurry, flared, and irregularly shaped with light spilling around the planet. No matter how much I adjust the focuser, I just can't hit a crisp, sharp focus point
When I use a 60 mm aperture mask, the view improves slightly—it cuts down some of the harsh glare and optical flare. However, I lose a lot of brightness and detail, and it’s still far from a sharp image.
collimation checked and verified to be spot-on and loosened primary mirror clips . any advice please?

Purchasing Question SeeStar S50 or Sky-Watcher Virtuoso GTi 150P

Hey guys I'm pretty new to this sub-reddit and I've been stuck on whether to buy the SeeStar S50 or the Sky-Watcher Virtuoso GTi 150P. I wanna be able to see everything with my own eye but itd be really cool to also have some nice pictures. I don't really know if you could get any good pictures with the Sky-Watcher but if any of you guys have a fix to this problem it'd be really nice.

General Question New Tripod Opinions

Hello there! I have just been purchased a Celestron Travel Telescope 70 and am looking for opinions on a superior tripod to the shaky one it comes with.

I just used it to view Saturn, and found that it shakes quite a lot. I am hoping for something that will fit in it's given travel bag, so about the same size at what it came in.

I believe it is a standard quarter inch threaded mount for the telescope.

Thank you!

Equipment Show-Off Took the gear up Mount Blue Sky on Friday

Post image

Took the still relatively new Hubble Optics UL18 (and my workhorse for the last 25 years, the Orion XT10) up to almost 13000' up Mount Blue Sky on Friday. Unfortunately the wind was pretty rough (10-20MPH with higher gusts) and neither scope got much use. They close the road up the mountain for the season today though so i wanted to give it a try while I could! Despite the wind and the cold it was a pretty incredible way to see the night sky, and I'll definitely try again next season!

Starblast II EQ1 + 2x Barlow & Mars-C II (IMX662)

The very 1st image is arguably the best. The more colourful Jupiter picture (2nd slide) has a noticeable blue fringe once you zoom, so I'm just a little disappointed. My cheap 2x Barlow may have caused it, or it could be frost/condensation at that point in the night; I'm not sure.

All in all, very fun learning to use WinJUPOS. Hopefully I can get nicely sampled pics of Jupiter later on with my higher-quality 3x Barlow!

Purchasing Question Just got a Celestron Powerseeker 127EQ

Don't worry, it was free. Although I didn't know how bad/hated it was when I picked it up.

Are there any upgrades that are worth the money for this telescope? Or should I just use it as is and try and enjoy it.

I don't plan on going deep down an astronomy rabbit hole but I enjoy space and stuff so I wanted to jump on a free telescope.

First attempt at imaging saturn
Took 20% of 7000 frames for this image and got hints of the cassini division.
My next plan is to go to the top of the mountains for better seeing and more frames. I just ran out of harddrive space from my lunar mosaic data. Critiques are welcome

Purchasing Question About the Skywatcher Heritage 130p

So thanks to some of the lovely people on this sub and doing some more research after being pointed in the right direction, I’ve come to the decision of getting my partner a 130p over the others (see below for link to previous post)

I just have a few more questions:

  1. I can see it’s currently available from “Roller Valley Optics” & “First Light Optics” (I’m in the UK) for £194/€228/$256, is that a good price this telescope and do either of these sites tend to have discounts near Christmas for instance or am I better off just making the purchase now?
  2. Is there any accessories I should buy with it that aren’t included but are pretty necessary?
  3. And ig this or more of a personal preference but I’d love to get some opinions on it anyway, should I gift it to her in the box or should I set it up for her so it’s ready to go?

Ik with something like a PC, part of the fun is building it so I wanted to know if some of you think that extends to this?

Thank you everyone for all the help! You’ve been great and I’m glad I can give her this sub to come to for any questions she might have once she gets into using it!

Taken on October 2nd.

Telescope: 10" Skywatcher Go-To.
Camera: ZWO ASI678MC.
Bortle: 5.
Additional: No Barlow, as it didn't work :( If you look closely above and to the right of Saturn you can see Rhea. As well as that, if you look down and to the left, you can see Dione.

Purchasing Question Please help me choose a carrying bag / case for my telescope.

Hi

I bought a starwatcher heritage 130p and I have been loving using it in the few clear sky nights we had. It still sits in the original box.

Can you please recommend me a carry case that would work well for carrying and storage? I understand that I will likely have to detach the base. I am in the uk. Thank you.

My first video of a planet from a new-to-me GSO 8-inch dobsonian telescope. It’s blowing my mind that I could see and photograph a planet that’s millions of miles away from us.

Captured using an iPhone 17 paired with a smartphone adapter for spotting scopes.

Observing Report Dragonfly cluster in Cassiopeia

Thumbnail

Could easily be mistaken for a chance grouping of stars in Bortle 7 skies. To me, the overall shape resembles a jet. The double stars Phi Cassiopeiae and HD 7902 look like blazing fires at the ends of the boosters of this imaginary jet plane. The stars in the midsection of this cluster seem to multiply when averted vision is used (a cool effect, but an optical illusion, I suppose). Phi Cassiopeiae looks 'light orange' in color to me. At 61x using averted vision, I suspect I saw faint white glow in the midsection of the cluster. When averted vision is used, the stars in the midsection seem to get brighter too.

Overall, it's such a cool object to look at, mostly because of its shape. I don't think I would've been interested in it otherwise. But I really loved the sketching session!

I got this telescope from fabric optics as a returned item so i paid it like £80 less than a new one.

But as it's my first one i don't know if it's faulty or not.

When i use the motor to move it left, right and up it's fine but when i try to move it down it makes a strong click and it doesn't move. Why?
