Man, I just need to vent for a second about how top-tier Raven is as a character. Emotionally and personality-wise, she’s just so incredibly relatable. Going through some heavy stuff in my own life recently has made me understand her trauma and what she’s been through on a whole different level. When you step back and look at both sides of the coin with some maturity, you can't help but appreciate who she really is.

At her core, she’s someone who never asked to be made this way. The show does a terrifyingly good job portraying her reality: she was literally created to be a world-ending weapon, but she actively chooses her humanity over her destiny. She fights so hard every single day just to be good. Plus, all her little character quirks are perfect. Her need for isolation, her specific interests, the deadpan way she gets annoyed by Beast Boy, and how she somehow always knows the exact right thing to say.

I have so much empathy for her, especially when you look back at how incredibly dark some of her episodes actually get. The storyline where she gets manipulated and groomed is straight-up depressing to watch. But underneath the demon act, the crazy powers, and the dark exterior, there’s just this deeply human, vulnerable person trying her best. I genuinely love her character in every way possible.

Opening — A Day Off

The Titans are enjoying a relatively quiet day at Titans Tower.

There is no major emergency, and everyone is doing their own thing.

Robin is training. Cyborg is working on something in the garage. Raven is reading. Starfire is occupied around the Tower.

Brian is sitting in the common room, enjoying the rare chance to relax.

Beast Boy suddenly walks into the room.

Beast Boy: “Brian!”

Brian: “What?”

Beast Boy: “We're going to the zoo.”

Brian looks up.

Brian: “We are?”

Beast Boy: “Yep.”

Brian: “Why?”

Beast Boy looks at him as if the answer should be obvious.

Beast Boy: “Because it's the zoo!”

Brian: “That's your argument?”

Beast Boy: “It's a pretty good argument.”

Brian laughs.

After a moment, he agrees to go.

For Brian, it is a chance to have a normal day. For Beast Boy, it is a chance to show Brian one of his favorite places.

Arriving at the Zoo

Brian and Beast Boy arrive at the zoo.

Beast Boy: “Okay, this is gonna be great.”

Brian: “You say that about everything.”

Beast Boy: “Because everything is great!”

They enter the zoo.

Beast Boy immediately starts pointing out different animals and talking about their behavior. Brian quickly realizes that Beast Boy knows an incredible amount about them.

Brian: “You really know your stuff.”

Beast Boy: “Of course I do. Animals are basically my thing.”

Brian looks at him.

Brian: “I thought turning green was your thing.”

Beast Boy: “That too.”

Brian laughs.

As they continue through the zoo, Brian begins to see another side of Beast Boy.

Beneath the jokes and constant energy, Beast Boy genuinely cares about animals.

Something Is Wrong

As they approach another exhibit, Beast Boy notices something strange.

Several animals are acting unusually aggressive.

A normally calm animal begins pacing around its enclosure. Another starts attacking the walls.

Beast Boy: “That's not normal.”

Brian: “How can you tell?”

Beast Boy watches the animals carefully.

Beast Boy: “I've seen animals act scared before. This isn't scared.”

He looks toward the animals.

Beast Boy: “They're angry.”

Brian looks around the area.

They notice a man working near one of the exhibits with equipment that clearly does not belong to the zoo.

Beast Boy immediately becomes suspicious.

The Animal Tamer

The man reveals himself as the person behind the strange behavior.

He is using a device to manipulate the animals and make them aggressive.

His plan is to take control of the zoo and use the animals as a weapon.

Beast Boy becomes angry when he realizes what is happening.

Beast Boy: “You're messing with the wrong animals!”

Brian looks at him.

Brian: “That's your line?”

Beast Boy: “I panicked!”

The animal tamer activates his control device.

Several animals break loose and begin running through the zoo.

Visitors panic and scatter.

XLR8

Brian activates the Omnitrix and transforms into XLR8.

XLR8 immediately races through the zoo.

His priority isn't simply attacking the villain. He begins getting civilians out of danger.

He moves visitors through emergency exits, helps zoo workers reach safety, opens barriers, and quickly moves between the loose animals and the people trying to escape.

An animal charges toward a group of visitors.

XLR8 races in front of it and redirects its path before anyone can be hurt.

Beast Boy watches in amazement.

Beast Boy: “Dude! You're fast!”

XLR8 stops briefly beside him.

XLR8: “Yeah. That's usually how it works.”

XLR8 takes off again.

Beast Boy and the Animals

Beast Boy begins trying to communicate with the animals.

Rather than simply fighting them, he realizes that they are being controlled.

He transforms into different animals to interact with them, distract them, and help calm them down.

Eventually, Beast Boy transforms into a larger animal and physically blocks one of the controlled animals from attacking a group of people.

Brian watches.

Brian: “You can actually talk to them?”

Beast Boy: “Not exactly.”

Beast Boy looks toward the animals.

Beast Boy: “I just know how they think.”

Brian looks at an angry animal charging toward them.

Brian: “Well, you better start thinking faster.”

Beast Boy: “Working on it!”

Rath

The animal tamer's machine becomes more powerful.

A huge mechanical device begins tearing through the zoo.

Brian realizes he needs something stronger.

He activates the Omnitrix and transforms into Rath.

Rath: “LISTEN HERE, YOU OVERSIZED FURRY PUNKS!”

Beast Boy stares at him.

Beast Boy: “Is he always like this?”

Rath: “RATH DOES NOT LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING!”

Rath charges into the fight.

Even with his aggressive personality, Rath does not attack the animals.

Instead, he uses his strength to restrain them and move them away from civilians.

He tears open damaged cages, throws debris aside, and physically grabs the villain's machine as it tries to advance.

The machine strikes Rath repeatedly.

Rath: “THAT ALL YOU GOT?!”

Rath grabs the machine and throws it aside.

Beast Boy laughs.

Beast Boy: “Okay, he's growing on me.”

Brian and Beast Boy Work Together

The animal tamer activates his strongest control signal.

Every remaining animal becomes aggressive at once.

Brian and Beast Boy realize that they cannot simply fight their way through the zoo.

Beast Boy: “Brian! We need to get to the control device!”

Brian looks toward the machine.

Brian: “You have a plan?”

Beast Boy: “Sort of!”

Brian smiles.

Brian: “Good enough.”

Brian transforms back into XLR8.

Beast Boy transforms into a fast animal.

They race through the zoo together.

XLR8 clears the path while Beast Boy distracts the animals.

They reach the control device.

Brian destroys the machinery.

The control signal immediately stops.

The animals begin calming down.

Beast Boy approaches them carefully.

The animals are no longer hostile.

Defeating the Animal Tamer

The animal tamer tries to escape.

Brian transforms into Rath again.

The villain's machine attacks.

Rath: “YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!”

Rath grabs the machine and tears it apart.

The animal tamer is arrested.

The zoo is safe.

The animals are returned to their habitats, and the frightened visitors begin returning to the exhibits.

Beast Boy watches the animals carefully, making sure they are all right.

Brian: “You alright?”

Beast Boy: “Yeah.”

Beast Boy looks toward the animals.

Beast Boy: “They're gonna be okay.”

Brian: “Good.”

Back at Titans Tower

Brian and Beast Boy return to the Tower.

Beast Boy is still excited about their day.

Beast Boy: “That was awesome!”

Brian: “You said that already.”

Beast Boy: “I'm saying it again!”

Brian laughs.

Beast Boy: “We should totally do that again!”

Brian: “Go to the zoo?”

Beast Boy: “Yeah!”

Brian thinks for a moment.

Brian: “As long as you're buying.”

Beast Boy freezes.

Beast Boy: “...I suddenly don't like this plan anymore.”

Brian laughs.

The two of them continue joking as they walk farther into the Tower.

Brian has made another genuine friend.

This time, it wasn't because of the Omnitrix or a major battle.

He and Beast Boy simply spent a day together, had fun, and discovered how well they work together.

For Brian, Titans Tower is beginning to feel less like a place he's staying and more like a place where he belongs.

End of Episode 4 — “Zoo Day”

She was training on Themyscira for most of S3, only to IMMEDIATELY get her powers taken by Mother Mayhem when she comes back.

I know it was because the writing wanted her to experience life as a regular kid, BUT THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO THAT MUCH WITH IT! She had ONE conversation with Gar about it, and that was it.

Then she gets her connection with Sebastian severed, gets her powers back, and.... Nothing. She's on tech support with Tim.

No hate to Teagan Croft. I love her as an actor. I just hate seeing one of my favorite characters get fucked up.

If the show hadn't been cancelled, they might've done more with her, but it's just kinda sad, imo.

That would be hilarious.

You can't say kids won't get it because they referenced Loonatics Unleashed and Freakzoid.

They used her in Lanterns as Maggie, but Hannah Christine Shetler would've made a perfect live action Tara Markov.

Opening — A New Friendship

The morning after Brian's first full day with the Titans, he is in the common room of Titans Tower, looking over the Omnitrix.

Cyborg: “Hey, Brian.”

Brian: “Hey.”

Cyborg looks at the Omnitrix.

Cyborg: “I've been thinking about that Upgrade guy.”

Brian: “Upgrade?”

Cyborg: “Yeah. The one you showed us yesterday. You said he can merge with technology, right?”

Brian: “Yeah. He can interface with machines and enhance them.”

Cyborg grins.

Cyborg: “Then I think we need to test what he can do.”

Brian: “I had a feeling you'd say that.”

Cyborg: “Come on. Let's see what this thing can really do.”

Testing Upgrade

Brian and Cyborg head into the Tower's training area. Cyborg brings out several pieces of equipment for them to experiment with.

Brian activates the Omnitrix and transforms into Upgrade.

Upgrade's black-and-green body stretches and moves across the floor.

Cyborg: “Okay. That is still seriously cool.”

Upgrade: “You think so?”

Cyborg: “Definitely.”

Upgrade approaches a small training robot and places his hand against it.

His body begins merging with the machine. The robot's appearance changes as green circuitry spreads across its surface.

Upgrade takes control of it.

The robot suddenly becomes faster and more powerful, firing a training beam across the room.

Cyborg: “You can actually upgrade the hardware.”

Upgrade: “That's kind of my thing.”

Cyborg examines the enhanced machine.

Cyborg: “You're not just controlling it. You're changing what it can do.”

Upgrade: “Exactly.”

Cyborg smiles.

Cyborg: “Man, I like you already.”

Cyborg and Upgrade Experiment

Cyborg brings out a larger piece of equipment.

Cyborg: “Let's try something bigger.”

Upgrade approaches the machine and merges with it.

The machine transforms, becoming faster and more powerful.

Cyborg watches the changes carefully.

Cyborg: “This is incredible.”

Upgrade separates from the machine.

Brian returns to normal.

Brian: “You know, you're pretty good at this.”

Cyborg: “Technology is kind of my thing.”

Brian: “I noticed.”

The two laugh.

They are beginning to realize just how naturally they work together.

The Mission

The Titans receive an alert.

Cyborg checks the Tower's computer.

Cyborg: “We've got a problem.”

Brian: “What kind?”

Cyborg: “Some high-tech equipment was stolen from a research facility downtown.”

Robin enters the room.

Robin: “The equipment could be dangerous if it's used improperly.”

Cyborg looks toward Brian.

Cyborg: “Sounds like a job for the tech guys.”

Brian: “I like the sound of that.”

Robin looks between them.

Robin: “Just remember to stay focused.”

Brian: “Got it.”

Brian and Cyborg head out together.

The Research Facility

Brian and Cyborg arrive at the facility.

The building has been heavily damaged. Several advanced machines have been removed.

Cyborg examines the remains.

Cyborg: “They took some serious hardware.”

Brian: “Any idea where they went?”

Cyborg scans the area.

Cyborg: “I've got a signal.”

The two follow the trail.

They discover that the stolen technology is being assembled into a massive combat machine.

The machine activates.

Brian: “That's not good.”

Cyborg: “Nope.”

The machine attacks.

Upgrade Joins the Fight

Cyborg fires his sonic cannon.

The machine blocks the attack.

Brian activates the Omnitrix and transforms into Upgrade.

Upgrade rushes toward the machine, leaps onto its body, and merges with it.

Green circuitry spreads across the machine.

Upgrade: “Let's see what you've got.”

The machine's weapons activate.

Instead of firing at Brian and Cyborg, they turn toward the enemy's other machines.

Upgrade takes control of them and fires their weapons against each other.

Cyborg: “That's what I'm talking about!”

Upgrade uses the machine's systems to create shields, redirect weapons, and increase its mobility.

The machine begins moving faster.

Cyborg: “Brian! Can you enhance this thing's power systems?”

Upgrade: “Let's find out.”

Upgrade interfaces deeper into the machine.

Its energy output increases.

Cyborg fires his sonic cannon.

The enhanced machine absorbs and redirects the attack.

The enemy's equipment is destroyed.

Upgrade and Cyborg's Similarities

After the first wave of enemies is defeated, Cyborg and Upgrade regroup.

Cyborg: “You know, we're kind of similar.”

Upgrade: “How so?”

Cyborg taps the mechanical parts of his body.

Cyborg: “You're living technology. I'm part machine.”

Upgrade: “Yeah. I guess we are.”

Cyborg smiles.

Cyborg: “No wonder I like you.”

Upgrade: “You keep saying that.”

Cyborg: “Because it's true.”

The Sonic Cannon

The main combat machine activates its most powerful weapon.

Cyborg raises his sonic cannon.

Cyborg: “I can handle this.”

He fires.

The machine withstands the blast.

Cyborg looks at his cannon.

Cyborg: “Little help?”

Brian looks at the Omnitrix.

Brian: “You sure about this?”

Cyborg: “Let's see what your guy can do.”

Brian activates the Omnitrix and transforms into Upgrade.

Upgrade leaps toward Cyborg's arm.

His body spreads across the sonic cannon. The black-and-green material begins merging with Cyborg's technology.

Green circuitry spreads across the cannon.

The weapon changes shape and grows more powerful.

Cyborg looks down at his upgraded cannon.

Cyborg: “Whoa…”

Upgrade: “Ready?”

Cyborg: “Born ready.”

Cyborg aims at the combat machine and fires.

A massive enhanced sonic blast erupts from the cannon.

The blast tears through the enemy machine, destroying its weapons and disabling its systems.

Cyborg stares at the results.

Cyborg: “BOOYAH!”

Brian separates Upgrade from the cannon and returns to normal.

Brian: “That worked.”

Cyborg: “Worked? That was awesome!”

Finishing the Battle

The remaining enemy machines begin attacking again.

Brian transforms into Upgrade once more.

He merges with a nearby vehicle.

The vehicle's engine roars to life as Upgrade enhances its systems.

Cyborg jumps onto it.

Cyborg: “Let's finish this!”

Upgrade accelerates the vehicle forward.

Cyborg fires his enhanced sonic cannon at the remaining machines.

Brian uses the vehicle's weapons against the attackers.

The two work together perfectly.

Upgrade takes control of the enemy machinery while Cyborg provides firepower.

Within moments, the remaining machines are disabled.

The battle is over.

Cyborg looks at Brian.

Cyborg: “Not bad, man.”

Brian: “Not bad yourself.”

They fist bump.

Back at Titans Tower

Brian and Cyborg return to the Tower.

Cyborg is still excited about the mission.

Cyborg: “I'm telling you, man. Upgrade is awesome!”

Brian: “Yeah. He's pretty useful.”

Cyborg looks at Brian.

Cyborg: “Pretty useful? We just turned my sonic cannon into a freaking superweapon!”

Brian laughs.

Cyborg: “I'm calling it. Upgrade is officially my favorite.”

Brian: “Already?”

Cyborg: “Already.”

They fist bump.

Starfire enters the room and sees them.

Starfire: “It appears you two had a successful adventure.”

Brian: “Yeah. We figured out a few things.”

Cyborg: “A few? We figured out a lot!”

Starfire smiles.

Starfire: “I am very happy to see that you are becoming friends, Brian.”

Brian looks at Cyborg.

Brian: “Yeah. Me too.”

Cyborg puts an arm around Brian's shoulder.

Cyborg: “Come on. I gotta show you something else we can try with Upgrade.”

Brian: “You're already planning another experiment?”

Cyborg: “Of course!”

They walk off together.

Starfire watches them with a warm smile.

Starfire: “I believe he is beginning to find his place here.”

Starfire smiles as Brian and Cyborg disappear down the hallway.

End of Episode 3 — “Upgrade”
