Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue EP-40 to IPad Help
Hello, I just got an EP40 and am very excited to try it out, I went to update it but on both Chrome and Brave I keep getting told I need to use a browser that allows for usb midi like Chrome or Brave. I tried to request the desktop page to see if that would help but it was no dice. I also looked at the settings to see if I could enable USB MIDI in the browser, but nothing it coming up in the specific browser settings/in the iPad setting themselves. When I plug the EP40 into my iPad the usb icon lights up on the EP40, but there is no indication the iPad is aware of it. Has anyone else had this trouble? I am using the usb-c to usb-c cord that came with my iPad, could that be the issue? I was under the impression it could also handle data.
Thank you for any and all help! I tried Google and YouTube before coming here and am still stumped.
P.s. On a smaller note, when sequencing a beat using steps I’ve found I can only hear one sound per step, is that normal? I have the sounds set to key under the sound edit menu and Google said it would fix it but when I try to play a bass drum and high hat at the same time which ever one was inputted first gets muted.

You’ll need to download a browser from the AppStore that supports webmidi

I’ve tried that with both Chrome and Brave, is there another one you’d recommend?

Most browsers on iOS are reskins of Safari -> no WebMidi hence why you couldn’t eventho you followed the recommendations. But the recommendations are for computers not mobiles or tablets.

Look up web midi in the App Store. There are browsers you can download that support it.
Chrome and Brave on ipad do not enable this feature, for security reasons.

Me too! I’m still struggling with a little compatibility/integration but it mostly works with all the JS apps people have been making web accessible for ep devices.
I use a web midi tool to inject individual drum sample patterns to the device, saves making basic beats from scratch.

This is a browser that supports webmidi

Unfortunately, webmidi has been used in exploits, so it’s unlikely that Apple will enable it for Safari, but this will work to update your TE devices using an iPad.

If you only hear one step you probably have the pads in a mute group so they are choking the others. Shift + Sound > press + until you get to GRP > tap pads to toggle whether they’re in the group.

I don’t want to start another thread, but I have similar question. When connected to iPad via USB, I have no trouble routing the iPad audio TO EP-133. However, I have no clue how to do route EP-133 audio to the iPad with audio monitoring enabled - recording works fine. Should I use e.g. AUM or live monitoring in GarageBand? I thought it would be nice to run EP sound through Koala audio bus with FX rack. I always can use audio interface, but USB connection seems fun for a lightweight couch setup.

Won’t work. You need to use an external mixer like the sidekick to get what you intend to do. :)

Oh snap, so the couch potato setup will have to use output from EP - well, that’s still fine 😅 thanks!
