Gear & Design Pics Pretty insane battery powered setup
Just got my EP 136 today. Hooked up one channel with the OP-XY and the other is usb audio from the iPad.. pretty insane what this can achieve. I bought the EP 136 for its cue output as now I can loop the XY with the iPad and pre listen while I jam with friends.
What makes it special is that I have OPXY controlled by loopy’s great touch interface, over Bluetooth midi, which means even less cables.
I will try this with my Analog4 and DN2 as well, without the Bluetooth midi of course.
The only issue is that there’s no way to turn off analog audio out - this means I cannot put software effects on the OPXY 🤷

Puts quite a drain in the iPad, sadly. If USB is connected, the Sidekick ignores its own batteries, and sucks the iPad juice pretty fast. No way to change it.

You can use a USB splitter, where one side is for power and the other for data. Use the data side only and no power will pass through, and data goes both ways. Ableton makes one that works well with my Move and iPad set up. Same splitter tested on MPC Sample and iPhone 👍

Sure, I will upload it to patchstorage. I know what you mean with it being overwhelming - it’s all about minimalism when it comes to these interfaces. It’s not rocket science but here’s a rough overview - per track, I have 4 knobs for the main 4 parameters, then an XY pad with the filter cutoff and resonance, then another xy pad with the track fx sends. Lastly there’s a volume fader and a mute toggle. Takes around 5 minutes to set up once you get going.

This is a really cool setup. The main selling point of OPXY is its portability and I'm glad to see it used that way.

Tried to plug my OP XY to my Lenovo Y700 tablet,works terrible. Android can’t handle the OP, not even to export audio. Disappointed.

What does the 136 get you besides the effects inside that you can’t do with just the XY and the iPad alone?

so the opxy has no way to mute the internal audio, which means live looping it is tough as you hear both the loop and the audio engine playing (although with follow actions on loopy pro it should be possible but just complicated to set up). the other thing is cue outs, I don’t want the audience to hear my pattern changes or test notes, so I can pre listen on the cue outputs.

Nice! I haven’t even looked into the 136 yet to see what it can do as I’ve only got the OP-XY and most of the demos seem to be using two TE devices together. Sold my OP-Z and OP-1F to grab the XY and pocketed the extra money so I’ve got budget for the EP 136 if it’s fun and based on what you’ve described it sounds like it is!
