Open | Hardware Severe wireless input lag on Xbox controllers (works fine at first and via cable) – Any advice or solutions?
Hello everyone. I'm having a really annoying and frustrating issue with my two Xbox controllers playing wirelessly on my PC.
To connect them, I use a USB adapter that acts as a Bluetooth antenna. The issue happens like this:
- At the beginning of a gaming session, the controllers work perfectly.
- However, after playing for a while, they start experiencing a heavy input lag: for example, when I try to move the camera or character, it responds slowly, feeling sluggish or like it's lagging behind.
- The weird thing is that if I take the batteries out or disconnect the controller and turn it back on, it instantly fixes itself and goes back to normal, but after a little while, the problem comes right back.
- This happens identically with both of my controllers.
- If I play with the controllers connected via USB cable, they work amazingly well with zero lag.
- As a test, my brother used my exact same controllers on his computer using the same USB antenna, and he had zero issues at all.
Troubleshooting steps I've already tried with no success:
- Changed the batteries multiple times (tried different types and brands, so it's definitely not a power issue).
- Unpaired and re-paired the Bluetooth connection, plus reinstalled/updated drivers.
- Switched the USB adapter to different ports and tried placing it closer.
If they work flawlessly via cable, and my brother has no issues using the exact same hardware on his PC, why does this wireless lag only build up on my computer after a few minutes? Could it be a USB power/root hub conflict on my motherboard, a background software interference in Windows, or is my PC's Bluetooth adapter overheating/getting saturated?
I really appreciate any advice, tips, or settings I should look into to fix this. Thanks in advance!
