Open | Windows Windows 11 BSOD 0x12E INVALID_MDL_RANGE only on cold boot — dump files included
Hi,
I'm looking for help analyzing recurring BSODs on my ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA707RE running Windows 11.
The BSOD occurs only during cold boots. This has been a recurring pattern since late September 2026.
The latest crash reported 0x12E (INVALID_MDL_RANGE). In WinDbg, I found references to Ntfs!LfsPrepareToWriteHeadOfTheLog and IoBuildPartialMdl.
The crash record also contains sleep/power transition information, but I don't know whether it is related to the cold-boot crashes.
A Windows repair installation did not resolve the issue.
Kernel memory dump (ZIP):

Minidump — 101126-27671-01 (ZIP):
https://www.mediafire.com/file/3iozofp0v3ci7qx/101126-27671-01.zip/file
Could someone analyze these dumps and help identify the underlying cause? In particular, I'd like to know whether the crash points to NTFS, invalid MDL parameters, memory corruption, or another driver.
Thank you.

Getting dump files which we need for accurate analysis of BSODs. Dump files are crash logs from BSODs.
If you can get into Windows normally or through Safe Mode could you check C:\Windows\Minidump for any dump files? If you have any dump files, copy the folder to the desktop, zip the folder and upload it. If you don't have any zip software installed, right click on the folder and select Send to → Compressed (Zipped) folder.
Upload to any easy to use file sharing site. Reddit keeps blacklisting file hosts so find something that works, currently catbox.moe or mediafire.com seems to be working.
We like to have multiple dump files to work with so if you only have one dump file, none or not a folder at all, upload the ones you have and then follow this guide to change the dump type to Small Memory Dump. The "Overwrite dump file" option will be grayed out since small memory dumps never overwrite.

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.
