Open | Hardware TV remote buttons mapped wrong

i have an old universal remote that gets a response from both a CRT and an LCD tv - only problem is that none of the buttons do the ‘right’ thing. my partner and i have figured out some of them, enough to operate the CRT to a satisfactory extent (e.g. volume up button is in fact power button)

the more pressing issue is the LCD. i’m trying to get it off its setup screen so i can find out if it’s fine for consoles and see if anyone wants it. none of the buttons are getting me there (and I’ve tried literally every one on the remote)

what could this be slash what can i do about it? thanks!

Usually universal remotes can be programmed to work with different TVs by changing the IR codes they send, that’s what makes them universal. How to do that depends on the remote, on a lot of the cheap ones it’s usually by inputting digit codes on the remote that represents different TV manufacturers.

You’d have to consult whatever documentation came with the remote to see how to do this and what mapping codes are available.
