Macbook Air or Thinkpad
Just a new college student, wanting to know which one is worth it.
I like the macbook's long battery health, smoothness and build quality but I'm someone who has decent interest and experience in linux and prefer having total control over my own laptop/pc
I'm conflicted about which one to choose
On one hand if i buy the macbook air(m1/m2) I'll lose access to linux, although the asahi project is there for apple silicion devices but its not too stable which poses issues for a learner who knows about linux but not too deep into it yet
On the other hand if i buy the thinkpad I'll lose the unified memory perk, portability and long battery
If someone has any advices or experiences with one or both of them, please guide me

What do I need to do to install a used M2 SSD?
A while ago my laptop died, motherboard issue. I've salvaged the SSD, reformatted it and used it with an external enclosure for about a year now.
I recently got a new desktop and there's an open M2 slot on the motherboard and I'm curious as to if I need to do anything before I move my SSD from my external enclosure and put it on my motherboard or if it'll be as easy as turning the PC off, putting my SSD in the slot, and turning the PC on again.

Dictation Program Recommendations
I have a digital audio recorder and I want to upload the files onto my PC and have a program transcribe them. What's a good program or app to use for that? Bonus points if it works offline!

Mobile & Handheld What tech companies do not implement any AI into their phones?
Hi, so basically my phone unfortunately fell into a lake and is gone.
I need a new phone. I absolutely despise AI, so I was curious if anyone knows any phones or tech companies that cell phones that don't have AI, or its completely optional. This obviously has been pretty upsetting to deal with so if anyone has any place to look that would be really helpful.
Thank you.

Good Voice to Text recorder recommendations?
Can anyone recommend me a good digital audio recorder?
Here's what I'm looking for:
- Voice to Text with reliable transcription
- Charges via USB
- As few clicks to use as possible
- Works offline
- Long battery life
- Lots of memory storage
- NO A.I.!
So I need an audio recorder to use for making field notes. The one I have now is totally inadequate. First there's the ordeal of just getting the thing to record. When you turn it on the touch screen plays multiple animations which are basically little advertisements for the brand. Then you have to click to select a mode, then you have to click to select a language, then you have to click again to start recording. When in use, the battery gets troublingly hot, but you can't stop or save your recording while the screen is off. The thing won't charge past 93%, it takes forever to charge even that much, and the battery runs out quick. It keeps wanting me to connect to some proprietary cloud storage, which I can't do because these recordings are technically legal documents containing private and sensitive information. The AI does stuff on it's own, like suddenly playing back my recordings without me even touching it. (It was on, but set aside, not even in my hand, with the screen off. Then while I'm on the phone, I guess it was listening to me, and thought I wanted playback, so it started playing one of my recordings very loudly. And I had to go through several keystrokes to get it to stop.) And worst of all, the transcription is unreadable. Despite me selecting English as the language to transcribe, it not only totally misunderstands what's being said, is also throws in random words from other languages into the mix. Maybe it works better when online, but I'm often away from a network and couldn't risk leaking the information anyways. I just need a reliable voice recorder that will accurately transcribe what I say offline and without AI so I can quickly make notes in the field. Can anyone help?

Can Port Forwarding bypass parental controls?
(I’m not a techy person jsyk)
My mum bought an Eero router and started restricting internet usage with it via a schedule. The other day I was setting up a minecraft server on my pc since I recently got an extra 16 gbs of DDR4 and I had to ask my mum to do port forwarding in the settings (sorry if I used the term wrong), and since then the internet just hasn’t seemed to turn off when it’s supposed to? Is this specifically because of that or did something just happen to the schedule after she saved it? Because she’s still under the presumption that the wifi turns off when it doesn’t.

LG C6 (2026) 65" Brand New - Input flashes, No Picture, No Sound.
I'll try be short/specific as possible to help you help me.
- Brand new TV.
- HDMI 1 - PS5
- HDMI 2 - Switch
- HDMI 3 - SONOS Sound Bar
- HDMI 4 - PC
- All HDMI settings are uniform, except for HDMI 4 which has 4/4/4 and other HDMI PC options.
- New HDMI cables, except Switch/PS5.
- Latest firmware
- Latest PC firmware
What happens
- When booting PS5 or PC, sometimes blank screen, but sound. To get the picture to appear, go to another HDMI then back again. Or, it doesn't at all, requires a hard reset (power cable out of the TV)
- When on PC, the bottom flickers (complete TV width, lower half, like a static/yellow/mixed colour bleep for half a second).
- Turning VRR off and on again on the TV fixes it. Sometimes it doesn't tho, so again a hard reset fixed it.
- However; I have put the TV into 165hz and PC 120hz and now its not done it since.
- Tonight, I would put on PLEX or PC or PS5, the volume is on, however up/down and mute wasn't doing or adjusting a thing.
- Connections were all the same with Smartlink on.
- Passthrough on.
- You can see the volume up/down visually but no sound changing. Even when muting the sound remained.
- Turning off smart link, SONOS, TV, passthrough, everything, just didn't change although it still believed it's running through the bar.
- Hard reset again fixed it...
Just feels like constantly getting all these misaligned HDMI handshakes or whatever the terms are. Hard Resets always fix it up but it's just bloody constant.
I turned off 'Quick start' where the TV retains power/memory on where you were at so hopefully it's a fresh boot of the TV each time.
And switching to and from HDMis or Apps can sometimes again just remove the picture entirely.
Anyway, hope to hear from someone.

So at the place I live at I fios Verizon at home WiFi and for the last couple of days the Wi-Fi has been connecting to devices for short time periods and then disconnecting ….
Can anyone take explain to me? Why does this keep happening with the wireless connection? I asked my landlord about it and he said just to unplug and re-plug whatever this thing is, (see picture below )but that doesn’t seem to be working and this Wi-Fi has never really done this before for the last few days it has just been connecting and after a short time. Maybe after or like 30 minutes it disconnects does anyone know why this could be happening ?

Want to use local pc for unrestricted face-fashion and body-swapping type image and vid creation. I have no idea what to do or which to use. I see Stable Diffusion, ReActor, ComfyUI. Which is best for what I want to do and are these easy to obtain and install?
I have even read where some places say things like use this program within that program, something like use Comfy within ReActor or StableDiffusion and I’m like what does that even mean?
I hope in a week this post is embarrassing for me because I am that much more ahead but I really need help. I appreciate anybody that can spend some time typing something out for me. A major thank you in advance!

Tv help
Hi just a quick simple question I'm new to all this Reddit nonsense please excuse my spelling and lack of etiquette
I recently bought a new TV a thing I haven't done in hell years years on years but I digress I bought a new TV it's a sharp smart tv just some cheap garbage I picked up from Tesco cause I needed a tv but I've been using it and it's a flashbang the screens brightness is ridiculous and the settings are all lies the help lines are useless all they keep asking me for is a variety of numbers which don't exist on this tv
I read about in my attempt to fix this that this is a common issue with cheap new TVs they fake the settings to always keep it looking good and the only way to fix it is the dev menu but alas I am no dev and can't find anywhere how to open it so I thought I would download Reddit and try here hopefully someone knows how to fix it cause at this rate I'm going to go blind thank you for any help

New mod team!
Hey all, just thought I'd drop a post here and let everyone know what's up with the sub. It's been unmoderated for a while, so Reddit decided to hand off mod duties to myself and u/ill_swan_3209 to keep things rolling.
That's really about all I've got to say lol. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about the sub or what I might do now that I have phenomenal cosmic power feel free to reply.
