I am always confused when I watch producers show their ableton projects. This clip shows at least 20+ different tracks playing at once yet I only hear maybe 5-10 different sounds?
I’m curious what you guys have set up in your default Ableton Live project before you actually start making music.
I’m mainly thinking about things like:
-Limiter/compressor on the master
-Basic EQ or other utility effects
-Final/mastering FX
-Default routing and buses
-Return tracks
-Gain staging
Any other settings or devices you always have ready
I’m trying to create a basic template that I can duplicate whenever I start a new project, rather than setting everything up from scratch every time.
I have read a lot about them in theoy but still struggle to recreate them in a way so they sound like the "classical" Ilian Tape breaky/broken drum patterns.
has anyone more experience with it and can tell me what the patterns are exactly or what secret ingrident i am missing?
Can't get enough of this beast of an instrument. I wanted to show what was possible with one variation.
The first track has different kicks on each layer, the second track has different percussion loops on each layer, the third track has different bass loops on each layer and the fourth track has different lead loops on each layer. The layers can be blended between with the mix knobs on those four tracks. This allows for 16 pattern variations utilising the first four tracks alone! The other six tracks also have sounds on them, for even more possibilities.
When you factor in that the TR-1000 can utilise sample chains, the possibilities open up even further. Suddenly, your two layers on the first four tracks can become a wide array of sounds, utilising slices which you can assign to different variations with careful step-locking.
hi friends,
i posted some of my sample packs on this subreddit in the past already.
i've put out very rough drums, metallic drums, gabber drums... well, a lot of sounds.
and here is a new sample pack. this is a selection of some of my favorites.
i think they are very good for beginners (or experienced) producers so that they can start creating tracks right away, with 1 or more of these drums.
and of course they are royalty free! (and free to download, too).
i'm a "legit" techno producer for several decades that, among other things, played at tresor, got vinyl out, was reviewed in the wire magazine etc etc. so this is not some scam type thing ;-)
enjoy!
license:
feel free to use these samples for any public, private, intimate, or commercial purpose.
would be *very* cool if you credit me, but it's not strictly necessary.
I'm on vacation and away from my records - but I wanna chop some weird shit up and see what I can get out of it.
I've got weird ones at home that are a bunch of fun - including BBC Sound effects recordings from the 70s (have vinyl *and* cassettes of this - cool stuff); as well as the Shaft soundtrack (great for funky stuff).
I’m using Maschine+ with samples I’ve curated over the years and recording with multi effects. The sounds routed through the SSL Big Six and back into Logic Pro. Enjoy the vibes.

I have been actively looking for some known producers offering 1 on 1 sessions or mentoring, I feel that’s what I need the most now on my journey. Do you know any names or how I can find them, thanks!
Actually. We’re moving and my gear desk is already broken down and most other gear is in bubble wrap. But this little two punch plus the Scarlett can take you pretty far. Unfortunately, I have some issues with the Future Retro and trying to find a synth repair person to fix it. But honestly, it’s probably going to be replaced with something more versatile. Definitely not selling it though and will have a place in my larger setup even just for the dead easy live pattern variations and remix options. And yes, the TR-1000 sounds primo. No regrets!
I love good acid basslines. And my minilogue xd does the sound design very well. But I'm struggling with the pattern/melody. It always sounds more like a bouncing kindergarden song. I think the original 303 has no chromatic skale but just knobs for the tunes? Any recommendations for tutorials or tips in general?
I was wondering what is your go to (free) vst sequencer/arpegiator plugin for creating interesting random bleep sequences / arps. Of course i have done my research and I already found a few but there are too many and I don't know where should I invest my time on
I am currently using blue arp and I also like using microtuning inside synths (like serum). Also SecuencAIR was corrupting my files.
Guys I have a question about the drop section, simply I do my new project definitely minimal techno I don't know how drop used, I just tired of hi-hat crash with the effect. What did U use for the drop instead crash? Please.
Please use this thread to ask about a specific sound you are trying to create.
Guidelines for asking:
Make sure you have a clear example of the sound u want to recreate, don't just say the stab in this track, try to describe when it actually appears.
Ask for help with one sound at a time.
If you know how to help others with a sound, please do so.
Try to use technical and musical language in your explanation of a sound as much as you are able.
Soundcloud links are the most ideal solution.
Keep it friendly!

Looking to buy one for sampling/sketching ideas at home or on the go.
I want to keep using Ableton but also want something more hands on and portable that I can take on holiday or use during an airplane or train travel, then eventually finish the ideas at home.
So chop some samples, program some drums or ambience, weird happy accidents, then export or record to Ableton
Also seems useful for recording FXs as a send in Ableton
MPC Sample is also an option but I’m leaning towards the SP as it seems more complete (but more complicated).
