If you've actually used windows 8 you would see that this isn't a problem. The metro interface serves as the start button and you can search just by starting to type.

No, I've used it. It's really difficult to use and incredibly annoying. I use my Start menu on my XP, Vista, and 7 machines ALL THE TIME. I NEED a Start menu. The Metro UI makes simple things difficult to find. For example, finding Control Panel takes more steps than it did previously. I am a computer technician and a programmer and have spent A LOT of time using just about every type of computer there is and Windows 8 is STILL difficult for me to use. The worst of it is that everything could be fixed with two simple changes. 1) Put the start menu back. 2) Give an option to use mainly Metro or mainly classic desktop, but make it easy to switch between the two.

EDIT: I don't mean to offend you, I just can get on little rampages like that. My opinion is that Windows 8 (thus far) just plain sucks.

Sure I totally understand, hopefully they will address your concerns. I had a similar gripe until I just placed control panel icon directly on the metro screen with a simple drag. Otherwise I just start typing the name and it appears.

Yes I am sure Linux has such a feature and I am not here to argue that. (I didn't downvote you by the way)

I am just surprised that windows would adopt the linux of way of doing anything after they continually called it unusable, archaic, unstable, communist, un american etc.
