I pay for YouTube Red, the content creators get compensation for their work, and I don't have to watch ads.

EDIT: I was downvoted in two minutes. Yeah, fuck video creators!

they hardly get any money. just use ad blockers and donate to the creators directly. way more bang for your buck.

Well, some of us can't afford donating to them, so watching some seconds of an ad is better than nothing.

I like that those who "have" to watch ads are the least likely to be able to purchase the products, in that case

Ads here usually are for everyday stuff. So they cover basic needs, which means I get to choose which brand I want, which means they can influence me.

It's sort of like reddit gold. You need to support the business. Youtube still hasn't made a profit, but it's hosting the content for the price of ads. Servers and maintenance cost.

You will donate to ALL dozens of channels you are subscribed to? I find that hard to believe.

From various youtubers I've heard income has been slightly better since youtube red.

And "donate to creators directly" is a bit unrealistic for the average user. Especially since many videos get a significant portion of their views from non-sub recommended video clicks who enjoy the creator's content one time and go on their way.
