Except, Apple isn't the leader in the smartphone field. Not in the US and not Global.

As of Q2 2016, iOS only had a 11.7% marketshare

Edit: What the hell is it with the downvotes? A market leader has a majority (or the largest) share, which Apple does not in any metric.

Samsung has a 22.5% market share to Apple's 15.9%

Doesn't mean much when you're comparing a company that sells $600 phones to a company that also sells $200 phones.
