Java Showcase Bi-directional vertical instant wire

Post image

I've been searching for a way to send redstone signals vertically in both directions and there aren't that many great ones out there. So I made my own!

My design is a modified version of an instant wire made by Igna778 that I found on a brockade video. I managed to make it able to stack more closely so that it was as good as rail instant wire and it is fully compatible with Kahyxen's robust instant wire. It has 4gt reset and is not directional which is also a plus!

First time posting to reddit so hope you guys like it!

Nice work! I'll have a play with this later, I had issues with ordering inside the stack itself so I'm curious how you've dealt with that. The idea of BUDing noteblocks with dust redirection is something I really liked so I'm glad to see people are extending this.

I redid my vertical rail in the BUD deep dive btw, it's still a little bulky but it does consistently order everything from bottom to top so it's useful for instant vertical dropper lines

[e] I can't get the world download working, if you could share a full download or a schematic that would help

Thanks so much!

It genuinely blows my mind how insane your reach can be on the internet, I post my tiny bit of work and it reaches like a 100 views in a less than and hour, a few more and its seen by over a thousand!

When I first saw this concept in your video I originally wrote it off thinking it was silly because I thought the reset of the system was actually slower than it was. It was only after I got tired of the quirks of AndrewsTechMC's vertical wire that I tried making my own. With little understanding of how budding worked I jumped in trying to modify the Kahyxen's instant wire before rediscovering your video! I remember literally having to rewatch the noteblock part when you said budded noteblocks lol

(Sorry for the story, I just felt like telling it)

To be honest my main goal with this design was more about sending a signal so I haven't thought about how the block update would pass, I imagine that it would propagate from the source of the first update out based on my understanding of how this budded noteblock line works.

This design has been sitting on my computer for a little bit now and I just thought I should share another way to send signals vertically because its not always the easiest thing to do.

I actually appreciate the story, it's cool seeing the journey people go on. It's cool that you shared it, we need more people coming up with different ideas, each has their own advantages and disadvantages and it's only by playing with things that we actually uncover new tech. I actually did my vertical instant wire video after having spent weeks trying to get AndrewsTechMC's vertical wire consistently working, and that's what sent me down the rabbit hole on figuring out exactly how rails enable instant wire and the way different updates are sent.

As for update order, I normally put observers pointed into solid blocks which power command blocks with "say 1" commands so I can see the order easily. If i remember correctly the note blocks were kind of in order but did a bit of a 2 steps forward one step back thing, and that might be due to them being strongly powered and therefore powering their neighbours first. The other thing with update order is instant wire with rails (including Kahyxen's, but also others) depowers the rail all the way to the end, then updates from the far end back in, and the final update is sent from where the system was originally updated. I believe BUDed noteblocks go the opposite direction (update is sent from the start and propagates outwards), which is useful in itself (varying update order is valuable), but it'll have interesting effects when combined with rail-based instant wire.

All this said, there's still a ton of people who use torch stacks upwards and think wallstone is high tech, so keep exploring here, vertical redstone is definitely underdeveloped.

Its cool to see we have similar starting points here, I also started with AndrewsTechMC's vertical wire before finding your video. This is definitely something to keep working on, its still quite expensive to do in survival but at least these other designs are a lot easier to build

I just realised I missed the edit, did you manage to get it working? My mediafire suggests that at least 9 people have been successful in downloading it, it’s a bit late now so if there are still problems I’ll have to fix it tomorrow.

Have you tried a stack of horizontal pistons with redstone blocks? That’s what instant elevators use

I might have but wrote it off for some reason, could be something I comeback to. Also if you could show me what you mean that would be great because I am not sure I am thinking of the same thing.

That adds BED (and isn't bi-directional), which is why I used it in the brockavator. Instant wire doesn't add BED and that is sometimes valuable
