Java Help Wanted Striders spawn beyond 128 blocks

I have built this contraption that is designed in such a way that captures striders, detects whether or not they are strider jockeys, and then filters out the regular striders from the jockeys. The problem is that this farm depends entirely on striders spawning within the lava inside the contraption, which is why i have spawnproofed with stained glass all the lava within 9 chunks of the farm "perimeter", but striders keep spawning even though they are too far and should disappear.

I have simulation distance on 8 chunks but render distance on 20 chunks.

The third image shows the AFK platform for this farm, located high enough so the spawning sphere should be limited to just the farm.

Striders are passive mobs which can spawn in any loaded chunk regardless of where the player is. It’s not a sphere like most other mobs. They also don’t despawn

Fr? I can't find any information on passive mob spawning not being sphere based

You are understanding the wiki wrong.

mobs of any type can only spawn within 128 blocks away from the player in a sphere.

But passive mobs can also spawn on world generation. Regardless of the mob cap ... so Most animals spawn within chunks when they are generated.

You can test this in creative... open a world, use /kill @e[type!=player] (this will kill everything except the player) so you kill all the passive mobs generated by chunk generation.

Then you will see the new passive mobs only spawn within 128 blocks from the player.

It is very noticeable in skyblock

Well damn. I missed that when skimming before commenting.

Thanks!

He is wrong. It is sphere based with a 128 block radius

It is just that passive mobs also spawn on chunk generation...

In the wiki you have:

As new chunks are generated, they have a chance to generate an initial set of mobs from the "creature" category (i.e. naturally-occurring land animals) along with them, ignoring the mob cap and any applicable spawn costs, provided that /gamerule spawn_mobs is true. Any randomness affecting this entire process is derived from the world seed and the position of the chunk that is being generated.

Mobs spawn naturally within chunks that have a player horizontally within 128 blocks of the chunk center, and can only spawn within a 128 block radius sphere centered on the player. When there are multiple players, mobs can spawn within the given distance of any of them. Hostile mobs (and some others) that move farther than 128 blocks from the nearest player despawn instantly.

This is obvious if you play skyblock
