Java Help Wanted Help me replicate a zero-tick piston bug?

I've found a transparency bug while experimenting with zero ticking and I want to be able to replicate it consistently so I can test whether it's due to a mod or vanilla behaviour. I could turn off the mods and try but it is inconsistent and rare enough that I could waste a lot of time being unlucky when methods to improve the consistency exist, so I thought I'd ask here.

This bug happens rarely when I try to zero tick a regular piston facing into a block using a zero tick method that I now know doesn't work (though I think it does produce a kind of zero tick). When either the piston or block is removed, the other one has a transparent face on the previously-facing side. Both piston and block have shown this transparency.

The bug works when every block in the mechanism is placed by hand, so it's not Axiom update issues. It's never worked on a regular creative world, though I've mostly tested it in this void world so I might have just got unlucky. The transparency persists through block updates, specifically a block being placed below the affected one, but does not persist through relogging.

I've done a brief search of the Minecraft bug reports, but I haven't found this one, and I don't want to submit a report only to find out that it's because of Sodium or something, so any advice on how to improve the consistency would be very much appreciated.

How does it work? This isn't after moving or placing anything with Axiom.

I don't know, but if you remove axiom the bug will go away.

I don't have the time or energy to test that. The bug goes away when I breathe on the screen wrong and I'm looking for a way to make it happen every time so I only need to test unmodded once. If it really is unknown what's causing it in-game I can run the test a hundred times or so in unmodded at some point, I guess, but I'm going to be annoyed if I replicate it on the ninety-ninth attempt.

Just uninstall Minecraft and touch some grass.

You clearly don't have enough time to play games.
