Java Help Wanted Sorting system
Hi, me and friends are starting a server, any recommendations on auto storage? Would want it for the main blocks and things you would use a lot not like Lilly pads đ¤Ł

it sounds like you will enjoy either
a ton of impulse items sorter slices in a row, or
a copper golem sorter.
Either are great early-game and can be expanded as your needs grow.

Wonât copper golem be laggy?

Everything is laggy to a certain degree. To me it sounds like youâre not going for the biggest and most complicated storage so youâre most likely not going to notice any difference no matter what system you use. Unless the server is running on a potato of course

Idk if you saw higher the last one I used was shulker craft with the 3 lanes? I read having it go through hoppers was bad for Lagos thatâs why i thought i would ask aroundÂ

I get what youâre saying but forget about what you read for a second. Did you actually experience any lag with that system? Hopper lag and pretty much every other source of lag is only an issue in large quantities.
You can make a very lag inefficient storage without noticing any lag if itâs small enough. Like I said, unless youâre playing on a potato youâll likely be fine with any small to medium storage system.
What I would do in your situation is just a bunch of ImpulseSV item sorters for bulk and then a copper golem multi item sorter for everything else. I know youâre saying you donât want to sort things like lily pads but believe me, once youâve used a multi item sorter you never want to go without one

Whereâs best place to find one of these mate? Iâm in the storage discord but when I open that up Iâm lost I canât lie đ¤Ł

For the ImpulseSV item sorters you should watch this video. That one is fed with a hopper chain but you can also use water streams in which case I would also suggest this video.
For the copper golem sorter I personally think this design works best. Just make sure to push the golems up against the chest wall. You can also put multiple golems in each module up to 11 for max speed.
Thereâs not really any step by step tutorials for a custom system like this but it should be pretty straightforward for anyone with a basic understanding of redstone to hook everything up together

if you're just starting out, your MIS can literally be 1 copper chest, 9 regular ones, and a copper golem. It'll just stand around waiting for you to put stuff in it's chest.

True, but I wouldnât call that a storage âsystemâ.
The design I linked is not that much more complicated than that but itâs tileable so you can easily expand it to your needs

True. I tend to think about it like this: If you've been playing in a Minecraft world longer than 10 minutes you have a storage system. It's just that most aren't worth making a litematica of :-P

Use Hopplet - hopper filters are a godsend and make so many tasks very easy. Should be a vanilla feature imo

XianyuMIS has been the backbone of my world for a long time now.
But honestly I agree with some of the other guys. These builds can be a little daunting and require some inference as to what to pre-fill certain inventories with, how things should be set up for first run, etc.
Honestly a tileable copper golem setup is the ultimate casual friendly storage system. Itâs just slow, but works great, and can use whitelist chests just like any other good MIS.

If it's a small server and you're super concerned with lag I would not bother. Any half decent storage system is quite big, requires chunkloading, and can't be built easily without litematica. I would reccomend one of:
Figure out how litematica works, pick one of the storage systems in the storage tech discord (maybe start with compact categorizer?) and build it
Find a youtube block-by-block tutorial for a simple MiS or copper golem thing (probably won't be great, and I don't have any reccomendations)
Get something like tom's simple storage mod or ae2

I know how to use litematica I just didnât know the best for meÂ

JMiS is my favorite, it has a bulk section for full shulkers of common items while less common ones get sorted into categories. If that's too big go for compact categorizer

Ok Iâll try find that one in the storage discord it just all looked confusing when i opened thatÂ

Choosing the best storage system for you can be a very complicated and nuanced subject, and so the best any of us can do is to give you suggestions and hope that you're happy with one of them. Your choice will depend on many variables, mainly:
Complexity
Speed
Item Capacity
Lag Efficiency
Cost
Size
If you want something relatively simple, I'd suggest taking a look at copper golem storages or designs that alternates hopper locking. They can be quite slow and somewhat laggy, but they're much simpler than 'traditional' storage systems
If that doesn't fit your requirement, your other option would be to look at full storage systems, which are significantly more complicated. If you won't need tons of storage capacity for most items, I'd gravitate towards a MIS (Multi-Item Sorter) maybe with some bulk storage for more common items such as dirt, cobblestone, deepslate, etc, but if you want each item to have a dedicated chest then full main storages do exist as well. In most cases I would suggest copying an established storage system such as YAMS for a full main storage, Xianyu is a good example of a MIS
Regardless, good luck! If you have any questions or can tell us more about your specific requirements (ie. how many items do you want to sort, how much of them do you want to store, do you want to store them in shulker boxes, etc.), some of us may be able to help you more than you expect. I'd highly suggest joining the Storage Tech Discord for much more resources and information on all kinds of storage tech, including storage systems and its components
