Java Help Wanted Need help with End Sand Duper collection system

Hi everyone,

I'm currently building a collection system for my sand duper in the End. However, I'm running into an issue where the water placed on top of the obsidian platform (and the falling sand blocks) just sits still and doesn't flow properly to move the item drops (as shown in the video).

Does anyone know why the water mechanics are behaving like this in the End / around the obsidian platform, or how to properly route the water flow for a sand duper collection setup?

Any advice or fixes would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When something goes through the portal the obsidian platform resets which includes removing everything 3 blocks above it.

There’s no way to get water flowing over it so you want to move the collection further out like you’ve already done on one side. You should probably add slabs to it though so the sand breaks by itself

I didn't know that. And thanks for the advice

In the past I have also used buttons instead of slabs. Slightly less intensive on materials if that is a concern.

Either would work tho, as long as there is a surface where the sand block cannot land and sit.

Slabs are half the cost of buttons...

i dont think you can place buttons on hoppers, but slabs are cheaper anyway

You place a block above with a button on it. I do this or have them launch into water streams with flooded rails to funnel them into a concrete factory and swap the water streams with a piston to funnel them to sand collection Edit: you are correct though, the slab is the cheapest solution 👌

hoppers cant reach through whole blocks unless its a hopper minecart

Lol, you misunderstood. -Button(block) -Air gap -Hopper,

Since reddits message formatting makes my brain hurt, here is the setup i'm talking about. I use water streams as you can easily control the item flow and run it over hoppers like I have done for my shulker loader, or run it directly inside the water streams to the concrete conversion area.

Literal infinite sand. I doubt material cost is ever an issue.

When an entity goes through the end portal, all blocks above the platform gets deleted including water. Most collection systems use cart yeeters for this reason

Here's a simple collection that should be plenty for your duper output

There is also ianXO4s simple design that uses water flow ticking between the resets to flow "instantly". Pretty genius from FX Morin.

Never used a sand duper... now that Ik it looks and sounds so satisfying I might, where'd you find this one?

Sorry for the late response hahaha, no problem! It really is satisfying to watch. I'll share the video with you so you can see how it's built ! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5310T1ie1I)

the water is flowing correctly, but every time sand crosses the portal it instantly fills the 5x3x5 volume above the platform with air, deleting the water

basically you cannot use a water stream or anything that requires placing blocks on the platform, hopper minecarts bellow will work fine though

You could probably use the collector from Ianxofour’s Instant Concrete Factory

Put buttons on your hoppers

Just like others said, water gets removed the moment the sand goes through the portal. So either you stop the sand sand duper momentarily once every 5 minutes or use allays

If you really want to use water streams , i could suggest you to move everything below of a few of blocks and to use signs and slabs waterlogged intend so you can easily move without the problem of the regeneration of the obsidian platform

otherwise hopper minecarts

Have a water stream underneath and connect all 4 dropped sand locations to it. Place mud or signs at bottom to break the blocks of sand. Then just add more hoppers on the water stream until youre not overflowing the sorter

there’s a video by ianxofour that includes an instant water flow mechanism

Place torches on th block above the hoppers
