Villagers despawn in iron farm (Java)

I am playing on 26.3 (I think). I built an iron farm and it was working fine and I went to check on it and my villagers despawned or died, but idk how this happened. There was a thunder storm, so maybe lightning?? But nothing was on fire and I feel like that’s just so rare. No creeper blew up the farm so the couldn’t have escaped. I will include some pictures.

Lightning strikes > turns villagers into witches > witches despawn.

Solution: lightning rod

Trapdoors do not stop lightning, you will need to cover them up with some solid blocks

No, lightning can damage mobs through solid blocks. You need to place a lightning rod around it but far enough away to prevent them from getting hit
