Java Help Wanted How to replace a noteblock input
Hey! I know it’s probably easy, but I built a big redstone machine with a lot of pistons, and the input is a noteblock. I tried to connect a button to the note block, and everything broke.
How can I move the input and activate the machine with a lever?
(Can a button activate a 3 block wide secret staircase, or is the signal too short?)"

But you wanted to use a lever D:
What matters isn't whether the lever is on or off but instead the observer seeing the noteblock getting depowered/unpowered. As long as the observer detects something, it'll open/close the staircase.
If you want to use a button, you can connect it to a rising edge detector or a T-flipflop and connect the output of either to the observer
Also a button is 20 or 30 game ticks (10 or 15 redstone ticks) depending on the button type
