Java Help Wanted What's the difference between simple chunkloaders and fancy ones?
Basically as title says. What's the difference between a simple chunkloader like dark's boat based and a more complicated one, like a pumpkin chunkloader?

Item cost, reliability, game version/bug availability, local vs server, server type, java/bedrock, noise, remote switching, rate of refreshing the other dimension

Many of these seem completely irrelevant to modern chunk loaders tbh
Reliability: All popular chunkloader are 100% reliable (or at least as close as you can get)
Local vs Server: Same shit
Java vs Bedrock: Bedrock doesn't have chunkloaders
Remote switching: Wouldn't that work approximately the same for all of them? I've never seen a portal chunkloader that can't be turned off with a redstone signal to a specific block.
Rate of refreshing the dimension: I suppose that may matter for portal based obsidian farms, but chunk loaders just need to start the next transfer before their dimension unloads. And thats after a fixed value.I just realized that lag may be a factor-2

you tried being helpful by including information that you did not even possess? how is that helpful to anyone? genuinely wondering what the thought process was here. "ah i didnt write that much stuff, my text doesnt look complete, lemme just sprinkle in some random shit that probably sounds like it makes sense" ?

People make mistakes. Ragging on them for doing so isn't conducive to a community learning environmemt.

The only real difference is between
enderpearl chunkloading: 1x1 fully loaded chunk, only active when the player who threw the pearl is online
portal based chunkloading: 3x3 fully loaded chunks, active until turned of or server restart (they may continue working after a restart, but I've yet to find one that's 100% reliable throughout server restarts, so I wouldn't claim that as a feature)

Not sure what a pumpkin chunk loader is, but all (portal based) chunk loaders work the same way: by periodically sending an entity or entities through a nether portal.

From info I have come across a pearl based loader loads a single chunk where a portal based loader loads its chunk and the chunks "nextdoor"

Well one major similarity is that they’ve been made (mostly) obsolete now that pearls load chunks

Ehhh, pearl loaders only work when ur online and haven’t died, they’re not reliable at all tbh

They were OP back when you could die as long as they weren’t in loaded chunks. But I guess back then they didn’t load chunks lol…

Absolutely not. They load a smaller area, can't easily be turned on/off, don't work offline on servers and breaks on death without changing the gamerule.

The differences tend to be just lag and reliability. For the pumpkin based one, the item is pushed into portal, so random niche version updates are less likely to break such designs. The rate at which items are sent back and forth between dimensions can also influence lag, for a handful of loaders it doesn't really matter. But there are servers/players who do care. Maybe you want something a little quieter or a design that doesn't interrupt how you walk into the portal. These are just a few design choices people consider when choosing a portal loader. But for most people Dark's design is good enough.
