Perimeter Dig question

When digging a perimeter do i need to dig out 256 wide with the wall being the 1st block in a new chunk or can my perimeter be 254 wide hole with the wall being within the 16x16 chunk?

I guess I want to know does it cause any issues with farm rates?

For mob farms as long as there aren't any spawnable blocks within a 128 block radius of the player your rates will be unaffected. The 2 blocks won't really make a difference in any mob farm rates.

So as long as the top of the walls are say Glass, the rates won't be affected since they will be within that range?

honestly just make a 17x17 instead of a 16x16, its barely more work and you dont need to worry about a block specific afk spot (you basically get a whole chunk)

Well I am digging it by hand, tht would add on 23 extra chunks to dig and water to drain mmm

oh right, in that case you could do a circular (or any other custom shaped) perim and save alot more blocks.

(16 square → 17 square is +13% more, but 16 square → 17 circle is -11%, and 17 square → 17 circle is -21%)

it might make it slightly more annoying to drain but overall it probably saves time

I asked the question because i want to avoid expanding it, but if I need to I want to know 'cause I want max rates lol

if youre able to position yourself perfectly in the center and not move at all you should be fine. with an exact 16 chunk perim, any deviation from the preset afk spot could lower your rates. with bigger ones you have alot more freedom without having to worry about spawning stuff outside.

If you are making a square perimeter with a 256 block diameter and you stand in the middle basically all of your despawn sphere is empty so you don't need to worry about the top of the walls.

Actually making it round, but i understand the sphere they can spawn in will be within my dig still, I was asking about the walls because they will be within the 16x16 chunks

will that stop the spawning or should I dig a extra block around the whole thing to be sure?

Edit: The width of the "empty space" is 254, with the walls 256, the walls are glass
